Hi my son (12) has crohn's. He is on azathioprine and has recently finished a modulen diet. He is complaining today of abdominal pain and sickness. He also has pain in his upper digestive tract ( he had ulcers all through him from his oesophagus to his small bowel show at the time of his diagnosis). He is also complaining of having to pee every fifteen minutes or so, it is not painful to go but his lower abdomen is very sore when he gets the urge. My question is is that a symptom of crohn's or it is something else and is sickness a symptom? Does the fact that he has a mouth ulcer indicate a potential flare? Are these pains something he has to live with or do they mean the meds are not controlling things as well as they could? Thanks if you have taken time to read this and have any advice.

AS you know Crohns is from the mouth to the anus, and it could be all crohn's related. If he was on modulen and now eating he could have scar tissue and medications can not help that. The Bladder is so close to the bowel and rectum area that it can put pressure on the bladder causing him to pee. I would get him to the Gi as soon as possible. I get mouth ulcers or cankers alot and doesn't necessarily mean a flare but could be in his case. As everyone is different I would get him to the doctors. :hang:

Keep us posted.

Thanks Pen. I have left a message for his GI nurse to give me a call. I am thinking that the combination of modulen and azathioprine had him pretty much in remission but now that he is off the modulen he is not so good. I will see what the nurse says and get his bloods checked.

Well I took matt to our GP this morning as he was still in pain. He rang the GI and they saw him on the ward. They did his bloods and an ray and a scan. The dr said he could feel a loop of bowel on his right side where the pain was and that it could just be gaseous extension but they were scanning him to check for increased thickening of the bowel lining. Bloods and xray normal, scan showed swollen lymph nodes where the pain is. I was asked if he had a recent viral infection, no he hasn't. Have been told it is very common and nothing to worry about just give him normal painkillers and it will clear up in a few days. I am relieved that they have said it is not a flare but am confused about him getting mouth ulcers if it is not. Anyway that is good news and hopefully he will be pain free again in a few days.
