I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease earlier this year, in February. My older brother had been diagnosed with Crohn's nearly six years before so it wasn't a huge shock when I was diagnosed as well. (Meaning, we had heard of the disease and knew the implications of the diagnosis.) Six weeks before my diagnosis I was experiencing severe fatigue, very irregular stools, and joint pain. Those symptoms have continued since without much significant relief. I have been on Budesonide since February and 6MP since about April (?). I am very eager to taper off the Budesonide (the whole fat redistribution in my neck and stomach are not in the least flattering), but can't until my anemia improves. I have also noticed I am easily bruising mostly on my legs. I read in other areas of the forum that that seems to be a common symptom among Crohn's sufferers.

Anyways, I hope that me joining this forum proves helpful, for both myself and other users. Looking forward to speaking with some of you. :)

Hey there:) So sorry to hear about your diagnosis - and for your brother too. But it's good you found your way to the forum. About the bruising, it could be because of the steroid. It started for me when I started on Pred.
Anyway, make yourself at home here and look forward to seeing you around.

Welcome Carey! Do you and your bro. share the same GI? What meds is/has he been on? Glad you've found your way here but sorry you felt the need! Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome, Dexky! My brother used to have the same GI I have now. He is no longer a minor and has since moved away from the area. He has taken Prednisone in the past and was put on 6MP (?) as a long-term drug. He's currently medication-FREE and has been in full remission for 4+ years, thank God! I have hesitated to take Prednisone because of the side effects, specifically the fat redistribution to the face. But that seems to be a slight probem with taking the Budesonide, anyways, also a steroid.

Hi Carey and welcome! I think you will certainly find the forum helpful. It has really helped me to open up about my disease and to stay on top of recent treatments and practices.

That is wonderful news that your brother is doing so well, but has he told his doctors he stopped his medication? Maintenance medication is very important in preventing future flare ups. Unfortunately, Crohn's doesn't ever go away and medication is needed for life in order to stay well.

Yes, his doctors know he has discontinued all medications. They seem to be comfortable with his decision since he's been doing so great. He's also been at a monastery for the past four years --a rather stress-free zone-- so he's significantly less prone to getting a flare-up. Things may change, but it's in God's hands...
