Hello all
Change in bowel habits. Felt a bit dizzy. Bowel cancer test ok.
However next test revealed calprotien? 991.
Feel ok though. Blood tests next.
According to the nhs app everything is abnormal. It’s Friday night/sat morning. Doubt if I will see doctor till Monday.
Does Chrones play havoc with blood tests? I’m thinking like blood cancer but earlier today went to gym and walked dog. Felt ok apart from a little constipation. I’ve also had an urgent skin cancer referral (melanoma).
I’m 57 and convinced I’m going to die. Chrones would be a relief. Full blood count reveals absolute bedlam. PSA high as well (I always insist on that) Last blood test was 10 months ago and satisfactory

Thanks for listening

Hi,

Calprotectin of 991 could well be Crohn's. The think scopes are your next step. The Crohn's can cause abnormal blood results. Amenia, high inflammatory markers and lower ferrtin or high ferritin. At least my experience mother of 3.

DD1 - DX Crohns aged 16, DD2 - Dx Uc 25 DD3 - anemia

Hello

How are you doing? Any luck getting to speak to a doctor?

Crohns absolutely can play havoc with blood results, and a calprotectin of that level would support the theory of inflammation in the digestive system.

I would suggest going to the GP if you haven't already been able to, and asking for a gastro referral, and they should get you a colonoscopy and possibly an MRI scan.

Crohns can also come out of nowhere, so your tests being OK 10 months ago would not rule out crohns or IBD in general, some people even get normal bloods during a crohns disease flare up.

Some people also don't get that many symptoms, and don't realise they have crohns until they get tested for something else or they suddenly feel unwell.

I understand its super hard when waiting to find out what is wrong, and the UK system is under a lot of pressure at the moment so its taking people a long time to get answers, but hopefully you will be able to see someone relatively quickly and they will be able to give you more answers.

I would suggest keeping a diary from now until you see a consultant detailing your meals, symptoms, any pain, bowel movements, what you eat etc.

Another thing that can make your bloods suddenly go haywire is coeliac disease, and this could cause gut inflammation too, so if they rule out IBD ask them to look into coeliac disease, a simple blood test can give an indication if you have it or not.
