Hi, I have an appt with my GP Tuesday but I wondered if anyone else with crohns had lost their period? My last was Aug 2009 ok I lost about a stone in weight coz I was in the poorly throws of crohns prior to diagnosis from April 2009 until finally starting infliximab in April 2010 but surely only 14lb is not enough to stop periods? I AM NOT PREGNANT!!! Had to take a test EVERY time I go to hosp totalling 7 negatives now! Don't know whether to worry or not? Ps have pretty much put the stone on again now!
Any help would be welcomed thanks xxx

Mine almost stopped for a while, but that was because I had alot of rectal bleeding that I didn't know about. I never thought anything of it till I fainted and went to the ER. Wound up in the hospital for 4 days and got my dx then too. That was a good long weekend...lol

Heya I hadn't had one since feb 2009, i was flaring and am quite underweight, I started gaining weight after my surgery in march and had my first period about a week ago.... I was told by my doctor because I was aneamic my body wouldn't spare any iron that it didn't have to, and that if your body isn't well it won't work as it should.
I'm not a professional or anything but personally I don't think it's anything to worry about :)

I agree and now that you have pretty much put the weight back on again, maybe in a month or two once your body regulates itself again, you will get it again. Your GP might want to run some tests just to make sure it's not something other than Crohns.

That makes sense to me! I haven't had mine in months, since coming off the pill in February, but haven't really worried about it. It's actually one less thing I have to deal with each month!

I haven't had mine in 2 months and I am on the pill. I was starting to really worry about it until I read this thread. Glad to know I am not the only one! I hadn't thought about my anemia being an issue.
Eclaires, I would ask my GP just to make sure though.
I may call mine tomorrow as well.

I also stopped having my periods for about 10 months. On the one hand, it was a bit of a relief (!), but on the other, it was an indication of something not being right. I saw my doctor after the third month of not having my period, and I also had anemia and I needed iron infusions to get my red blood count up. It worked, and I now have my periods...sigh.

I didn't have a period once for four months because a flare-up of epic proportions. I spent a fortune on at-home pregnancy tests during that time lol. The OB/GYN said my body basically rerouted all energy to the flare. And when it did start, eeeek.

i wouldnt worry too much, i was told that i was going through the change, and at the time i was 39!! i dont care, less to worry about, and its saves money!!

Mine stopped for a while when I was really ill & had lost loads of weight. It came back when I started to feel less horrific & gained some weight again.

In addition to what's already been said - if you're under significant stress, your period can stop, too. I had that happen years ago when a friend of mine passed away. I took his death really, really hard and didn't get my period for a couple of months. When I started to come out of the fog of grief, my period came right back. So that's another possibility too, if you've had some sort of major stress-inducing or life-changing event happen recently, it might be related to that.

not to hijack eclaire's thread, but i finally got my period! i guess my body just needed to adjust a bit and get back into it's "normal" state (whatever that might be).

yep happens to me all the time. i think, in my entire lifetime even, i have had less than 20 periods lol.

i think being underweight of course is a resonable cause for it disappearing, but i also think that just LOSING weight/being unhealthy even if you are not UNDERweight is enough for your body to go "whoa, stop all unecessary processes, not healthy, cannot support an embryo" you know?
