Not a colonoscopy!!!

I know it really is not that bad, and it is to make sure everything is fine in the old stomach...

BUT I DON'T WANNA GET ONE!!!

:angry-banghead: I just really do not want to wake up during it again. Hopefully I won't. Even if I do though, I know it is not that awful, and is over rather fast.

O well, what can we do?

Good luck.. I had a colonoscopy in 1997. They did not put me to sleep. It was agonizing. Last year I was asleep. Thank god.

Good luck I would hate to wake up during that..ive had five or so and dont remember a thing from any of them. If only life were that easy...

Wow sounds like you guys have it good! We only get sedated for colonoscopies here.. they like us to be awake so we can move around if need be! Not the nicest experience for sure..

i have number 10 this wednesday - yay - i told my doc (whom i know very well) either i get knocked out or he does - so now i get the full treatment

I always get knocked out for mine, and I always wake up in the middle of it. And I'm always JUST SO LOOPY AND GOOFY AND THRILLED to be there! "Oh WOW is that me? Is that my intestines? Show me a polyp! HAHA that's a scar isn't it? Hehehehe!" And then the doctor gives me another shot to shut me up.

lol .. on my form this time where they ask if there are any special requirements after the operation, i wrote "One Supreme Pizza please" .. hold the polyps.!

hope it goes well.. even when Im sedated, Im still awake.. and dont fall asleep until recovery. ya thanks.. u think they could just give me a few more minutes til Im out?!

Hi Mike..hope all went well for you. I know I'm going to have to go for another soon. The first one when I was diagnosed 10 years ago I was wide awake and fighting the doc and nurses it hurt so bad...two years ago, when I had another, I was awake but as loopy as I can get..they have better meds now...I was making comments about what I saw on the screen, and laughing and asking questions, until the doctor asked me to please let him do his work. It really is cool to watch though!

holy crap colonoscopy while awake?!?!?!

i've only had 1 (it was with an endoscopy at the same time) slept through it completely. god that must be so weird to be awake through that..

The first time I had a colonoscopy, was when I was hospitalized for suspected Crohn's. I was fully awake, but they gave me something through IV as sedative, but I remember I still felt some pain. I was watching everything inside my colon on TV!!! The most thing I remember was when they reached my inflamed ileo-cecal vlave and couldn't pass to the ileum because of all the inflammation it was closed!!!! I later had a barium X-ray small bowel seried to confirm Crohn's

The second time I was semi-sedated, so I was in a dreamy state with mild visions of feeling pain and nurses arround me..... also in this try they couldn't also reach my ileum........

It's strange how every doctor does it differently

I too had my colonoscopy 6 years ago whilst I was awake. It was excrutiating and I hope I never have to have another one. I know that seems unrealistic but it was awful. I had pethidine for pain which made me a little loopy, loved the stuff, couldnt stop laughing afterwards, my mum got quite irritated with me laughing at nothing. That was the fun bit afterwards. Hope yours goes well Mike. Can't believe we have to stay awake in the UK when You are put to sleep in the USA.
