Hi everyone,

I was just prescribed Arcoxia (30 mg) by a urologist for pain relief (I was just recently diagnosed with chronic UTI). As far as I know (although I haven't done much research yet), it is a fairly new NSAID that doesn't inhibit Cox 1, but it is still not advisable to take it if you have Crohns or UC, apparently.

I will only be taking them very occasionally, and the urologist thought it would be okay to use them in moderation even though I have Crohns colitis. I have not yet talked to my gastroenterologist, but thought I would check with you guys if you have any experience in taking this drug? Has it worsened your Crohns at all? Would love to hear your experiences! :)

My GI told me it would be ok for me to take Ibuprofen every once in a while, but I disagree. I would prefer to not take anything that has the possibility of aggravating my Crohn's.

I guess what I'm saying is it's up to you and your comfort level. I personally wouldn't take the risk, but the relief you get may make it worthwhile for you. Your urologist says it's ok, but if you're still uncomfortable with the idea there's no reason not to ask your GI. She or he would probably know better than your urologist in any case.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, for the advice! I will definitely ask the gastroenterologist before I take any, then. He is just so bloody difficult to get a hold of. :)
