So I've been flaring for well over a year but I suspect 2 years. A Fistula I had back in my teens is bleeding. It's at the top of my but crack. It's bled off and on over the years but it's happening a lot now. Bleeding through underwear, pants, and shirt. Very weird. Gotta love crohns. :ybatty:

Sorry to hear that. I've got an old one there too that seems to be opening up again. Fistulas and abscesses are truly the most miserable part of this disease for me.

ETA: Remicade did wonders for my fistulas.

I'll find out in the next couple of months if I'm going onto Remicade.

DJW, do you have a stoma? I though I was the only ostomate who has developed butt problems when its not being used. Have you asked your GI about it?

I have had an ileostomy for a long time. I have a follow up with the surgeon this week and will talk to him about it along with the abscess under the wafer.

I've had some problems with bleed through too. :-( sorry man. I put tissue paper over the fistula. I found it just stayed there on its own and would soak up the blood quite well.

I bleed too. I like to use the round makeup pads, they seem to work well and are a good size for it. Good luck!

I had my op in May and it resulted in a stoma. I do pass mucus usually first thing in morning and rest of day its ok. Now intermittently I've been passing small amounts of blood, and some days I don't at all. But today I've sort of leaked and had a bit passing whilst also passing mucus. Its not painful and I suspect it looks worse in the bottom of the toilet. I nearly got caught out at work not managing to get to the toilet but just made it. Is it normal for bleeding put of the backside. I assumed its because nothing really comes out of it any more and its just mucus?

Quick update. Had surgery to drain the abscess under the wafer, left groin and clean up an old fistula at the top of my butt. Nurse is in every day dressing the wounds. Thankfully none of the abscesses are fistulas in disguise.

Hopefully these will heal promptly. It is so annoying dealing with recurrent wounds/fistula/fissure/abscess... Are you taking cipro-flagyl currently?

@babypink: Bleeding can be normal. I would suggest you mention it to your GI and/or surgeon as your surgery is recent but I can tell you that I do bleed still after many years and always have. It is not the same for everyone, I think my gi (or maybe was it my surgeon) said it was something like some perpetual rejection state that my rectal stump was in. Anyway, I have biopsies done every year in theory.

Hi DJW, Glad to hear that the abscess under your wafer and the old fistula have been attended to and that there are no new fistulas. Truly this disease is one thing or another!
You probably won't need this now but Menstrual pads could be helpful for soaking up excess blood from a fistula........I know its the last thing you want to buy after the tampons but perhaps you could pretend they are for a girlfriend. :)

Babypink the blood sounds a bit unusual. Is it bright red or rust coloured? Could be from a haemaroid (sp?) or fissure??? I would definitely mention it to your surgeon or GI next visit. Most likely nothing to worry about but better to be safe than sorry. I get bleeding from a fissure and that is bright red, and yes it always seems to be a lot more than it actually is. :)

 anna

anna, you just made me laugh. First tampons now pads. But if it works I'm on it. Wings or no wings? ;-)

I've just finished a second course of flagyl.

Wings may help it stay better, but feel weird on your butt...I'd also use an ultra thin pass, won't bulge so much. :):):ycool:

I was asking since I had a lot of relief when I was on continuous antibiotherapy at the moment I had to change cipro for amoxiclav. I don't know if it could be beneficial for you but I know it allowed to close a fistula temporarily...

Haha, I can just see you with a winged pad stuck to your bottom and a tampon stuck in your stoma - I just wish I was a cartoonist!

LOL. I must confess. The first tampon purchase was very difficult. The other day I was at Walmart and I walked to that isle and I was pricing tampons. Now I clipping coupons. Will it ever end ;)

The fun continues. The nurse came by yesterday. I told her the it hing was driving my crazy. Her reply: might be yeast. I'll check. You may need to pick up come vagisil. I said sure. I'm already buying tampons, pads, why not vagisil. LOL

This is awesome guys for 11yrs now since being diagnosed I've bleed on and off only after bm's though and just in the paper maybe a lil in the toilet. The dr pointed out (literally pointed) that I have a fistula and a abscess down there which I always do he dosent seem to be to concerned with it right now he said if it's not bothering me then we can take care of them whenever I can get the time off of work and there not bothering me at all right now. It dosent make since though I can go a few days with no blood at all then have a hard bm where I gotta push a lot then bam I'm back to square one bleeding and discomfort? Idk I've always had more b hole problems than anything else that's how I first got diagnosed is a bad fistula and abscess it was huge and I was bleeding like a stuck hog!!!!! And FYI some good quilted nothern double ply makes a awesome MANpoon when ur bleeding through!!!!
