Saw this from New Chapter Organics http://www.newchapter.com/products/sc-omega-7 the Omega 7 supplement. It is supposed to health the digestive system because it supports mucuous membrane health.

This stuff is made from Sea Buckthorn but I won't pretend to know what the heck that is. I am thinking of trying this supplement although to be perfectly frank I am sick of all the costs associated with these natural supplements although some really help.

I tried it once and can't say that it hurt me, but it was part of a regimen I took that helped with an abscess temporarily. Using that, goldenseal extract, gotu kola extract, kyolic garlic(the digestive help one), L-glutamine, and an alfalfa supplement I actually recovered from an abscess for a month (took about 2-3 weeks to notice a difference). My then doctors didn't believe I had an abscess so I found supplements that help heal digestive mucosa. I think what led to the ascess coming back was the puss got trapped from the inside and hadn't worked its way out so the pressure built up as it worked its way down and out leading to sudden, excruciating pain.

Basically I can't say this pill alone helped with my symptoms, but it most definitely did not hurt. I also trust new chapter products, so I didn't feel like this was a product designed only to rip us off. For $15 it isn't a terrible expense to try. I would recommend adding in L-glutamine with this supplement though since L-glutamine is one of the most important nutrients we can add to our diet as crohnies.

Wikipedia link for a quick read on it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palmitoleic_acid

Doesn't appear to be too bad unless you have cholesterol problems. If you are concerned, talk to your doctor first as usual with any supplement.

I just received my order of it since you reminded me of my previous good experience with it. I'll let you guys know if I notice any change on it or not. It might take a while and given so many other changes I'm currently going through it might be hard to say, but just wanted to let you know I am giving it a whirl. I got the 60 capsule container from a website called iherb.com I've had good luck with them in the past. If you plan to order from iherb, see below where I put information on how to get a $5 coupon code for your first purchase. They have always had fast (a few day turnaround), reasonably priced shipping and their prices are competitive (payed ~$35.00 for 60 capsules) and their selection is really nice.

If you want the $5 discount on your first order you can use the code: WIS602 or my email andrew DOT wiser AT ucsf DOT edu (change DOT and AT to . and @ and remove spaces) or you can look online for coupon codes that are posted on any number of coupon sites.

I will disclose using that coupon code will benefit me giving me %4 of your order to use on the site for future purchases. However, I think most of you know my history here and should know I wouldn't recommend something if I didn't like the service I got. I figure you should know about my small benefit rather than finding out later.

Please definitely keep us up to speed. I take so much already but I am eager to get into remission. F crohns.

After a week I would say my stomach has been fairly quiet, but it had been quiet for a couple weeks in December as well with either a stomach flu or blockage at the end of December. When I do have stomach pains though, they are not as severe and don't tend to last as long. I'll update again in another week or two probably. If the same trend in reduced stomach pain severity and duration persists that will definitely be a plus for this in my book, at least so far as to recommend others give it a try. I'd need a couple months of feeling good to be confident this supplement is providing me a good deal of benefit, but for the reasonable price it doesn't seem like a terrible supplement. Also, any supplement that tastes good (natural flavoring of the extract, not added) if you burp a little bit after taking it can't be a bad thing (might not make it good either though).

There are just so many things out there and I am sick of popping pills and spending money. The problem is you don't know if you feel better from this, that, or the other thing. Too many variables makes crohns annoying.

I'm also having my fiancee take it for ibs and heartburn since some people seem to have benefited in that area as well when reading reviews about it. I figured for $35 we can try it both for a month and if one or both of us feel better, then it was a good investment. One thing of caution is it can darken your urine (was scared when it was brown today and thought somehow my small set of drugs from crohns treatment and managing cold symptoms was affecting my liver). Luckily, it went back to clear and after some digging, sea buckthorn can cause dark urine, which only occurred like 45-60 minutes after taking. Other than that, I must say today I had almost zero pain to the point where I never once stopped and though to myself hey this sucks. There were a couple of pangs in my usual spots, but they were mild and dulled compared to my usual. I'm keeping a positive outlook that my combination of drugs (cimzia + entocort), supplements (vsl#3, multivitamin + omega7, and 50000iu of vitamin D a week from my doctor and soon to be omega 3-6-9 and l-glutamine), and this biofeedback breathing technique I was taught this week(mostly to prevent having a breakdown like I did in December due to a number of sinus and other infections + insomnia and nausea being piled on top of unusual crohns bloating pain) is going to work. My focus is on getting the symptoms and inflammation in check with the two drugs, then supplementing with other drugs that support my colon by keeping the mucosa healthy (omega7) and improving absorption and how well the cells seal the intestine (l-glutamine) and then general well being omega3-6-9 and multi-vit. Waiting on the l-glutamine and omega3-6-9 to let the other cocktail have a chance to work before making it more complicated to determine what is helping me most.
