Optimental

Just joined the forum and saw your question. Both my children w/Crohns have been on ice-cold Optimental for several years (3-4/day when flaring) combined with VSL#3 and a no to low sugar/processed food diet and have done incredibly well. The oldest (15) has been the most dedicated to the program of Optimental/VSL#3/retricted diet and exercise and has shown the most progress. When she began drinking Optimental 4 years ago, it contained soy rather than the whey it now contains and was more tasty. It was hard for her to get used to the new formula but she was sure that it made a big difference in her energy and well-being. Her old health insurance (Oxford) paid for the supplemental drink but her new insurance (Aetna) does not so with 2 children on it, I have had to make cuts in our lifestyle but it is well-worth the cost to keep them off drugs for as long as possible. If you can get over the poor taste, I believe you will begin to gain weight and have more energy and maybe the VSL#3 will decrease the bloating.
