Hi All -

Last week I was in the hospital for severe abdominal pain. To make a long story short, my GI thinks I may have picked up a virus and she also said there was severe flaring of my terminal ileum. So, along with going back on Prednisone (PS - It's 3am here and I'm wide awake and starving. Ugh.) she also put me on Cipro and Flagyl.

For the past day or so, I've had coffee grain BM's, which is not normal for me compared to the last time I was on pred. Also, I'm dealing with somewhat intense spasms after I pee and poop in my very low pelvis (like right around my uterus) and anus. It subsides when I lay down or take pain meds, but when looking up the drug interactions online it said that Pred and those 2 antibiotics can intensify one another and cause some problems. I don't feel like the antibiotics are helping, so what should I do? Has anyone else dealt with this? It's so uncomfortable - especially when I'm at work and can't even sit properly from the spasms.

Hi TwinkleToes, so sorry for the late reply. :(

How are you feeling now? What did your doctor say when you told them about your symptoms? Those coffee ground BMs were likely blood coming from further up your GI tract. I hope you were able to get help from your doctor. Please keep us posted.

Hey Jennifer, I have to see her tomorrow. I stopped the antibiotics and all of my symptoms went away. I never had any issues with bleeding but for some reason by BM's were never normal while on antibiotics. About four days after going off of them everything was normal again and I have had no issues since. When I looked online it said that prednisone and Cipro and Flagyl were not good together. Actually, it showed a bad reaction between the antibiotics and prednisone. I just felt it better for me to go off of them. I will write back tomorrow with information as to what happened.
