Hi

Ok, so some of you may have read my story etc this is from a while ago, I just really need some advice atm, My GI is out, I have a docs appointment later but atm I just need someone to tell me whether this is going to end up sh*tty or not.

Basically, all the tests show indicative crohnes, and so far I have abdominal pain, not like bloody poos or anything. I was put on pred which has been working amazingly, I felt like myself again, however, in this may sound very personal, but "down below" feels incredibly sensitive, tingly sensation.
Up until last night I could cope with it, it has in my book been getting worse, during the day I dont feel it as much, but as soon as I lie down it just gets back, believe me i'm not turned on or anything. It feels like its coming from my uretha.. last night it got so bad I couldnt sleep, its all I could think about. I rang the pharmacy today and they said I am having a reaction? I've been on 6 pills for the last 3 weeks, and last friday went down to 5. And then, along with this, my left side started really hurting, like sharp severe needle type pains, and so far it hasnt gone away, it takes your breathe away. Is the pain got something to do with it? Please help. I was feeling so well, and now, now its like back to square one again. and I'm so SO scared the docs are going to take one look at me and push me into hospital again, which I just couldnt cope with.. I KNOW that sounds melodramatic, just, the last time I went in was just.. awful, and they did nothing to help me.

Hi

Just thought I'd say went to the docs and he told me that it could be thrush from all the pills i've been taking! great eh?
Also, been put on 8 pred a day for 2 days and then drop down to 6. Apparently it could be from dropping down to 5. Is Pred really this much off a bi*ch to come off of? And, um, he wants me to start taking Pentasa? What does that do? Does it work? Thanks for the help guys :)

Hi Gracifer

Thrush is better than other things, right? I hope they can get it to go away. From what I've heard, some people have a lot of trouble weaning off of the Prednisone. So, it could very well be that and that you just need a slower taper.

Pentasa is a pretty mild medication. It's basically an anti-inflammatory. I think it usually works for people with very mild cases of disease.

True it could be worse, but because i left it so long thinking it had something to do with steriods, it got to the point where i couldnt sleep due it.

Just wondering, this is completely separate, can you have crohns disease if you just have one symptom? I have abdominal pain which I realise is coming from my terminal illium, because it has come up on the ct scan as swollen. I have no other symptoms? Can you have an infection in that area? I mean, everyone comments on how fast my heart beat is. I also have anemia.. and before I was on the steriods my CRP was way up. Could it be inflammed because before all this I had basically been pill popping all these drugs the docs gave me for months? Or am I sticking my head in the sand and could it be Crohns?

Also, just wondering how long does it take a higher dosage of steriods to kick in? In the last few hours I've been feeling really manic (?) like.. quite shaky, like I want to eat everything in sight, really really teary (anything sets me off) but at the same time I feel like I could just go mental. Is this normal? When I was on 6 I felt normal? My docs out atm too.

Crohns can be mild to severe, and effects us all in different ways, so yeah you could be dealing with Crohns even if you don't have every symptom out there. Sorry.

Steroids can work very fast, and the symptoms you are describing are not uncommon. I have had them myself. Sorry you have to deal with that too. I hope you are feeling better soon buddy!

There are some people out there that have no symptoms and have terrible cases of disease. Not saying that is you, but it is possible to have Crohn's without having many of the typical symptoms. Mine is located in the terminal ileum and my only real symptom was abdominal pain, which got progressively worse as time went on. I was under the impression my problems were gyno related and never really took them seriously enough. I ended up having an abscess, fistulas, and strictures. Which, I will add, have resolved themselves pretty much since I've been on appropriate medications. I still have mild inflammation, but everything else has gone away.

Anemia is linked to IBD (I was also anemic and didn't know it) as well as elevated CRP. So, sounds to me like you do have some other symptoms that could point to Crohn's. Of course, I am no doctor. My point is, outward symptoms aren't always indicative of disease.

Hope the Pred works for you though. I agree with Nicole. The things you are experiencing now sound like they are from Pred, which can affect you pretty quickly. I wouldn't worry about it unless it becomes worrisome/disruptive.
