Pain location?

I am still in the diagnosis phase, but I was wondering where you typically feel the abdominal pain.

I have been getting sharp pains in my right side just below the ribs. It doesn't happen everyday but often occurrs after eating. It can range from a full pain all day long to a really sharp pain that lasts 20 minutes.

They originally thought this was my gall bladder, but all those tests have come back fine. My GI doc also mentioned it could be "trapped gas". Is that really a thing?

I also sometime get a dull lingering pain on the left side below the ribs and around the navel. This also doesn't always happen.

My severe pain is located between my hip bones, below my bellybutton. Pretty much where my ovaries are, spreading all the way across. However, I've experienced stomach pain is just about every other area as well. The dull pain around the navel definitely sounds familiar to me.

Thats where my pain was originally, thought it was gallbladder at first but tests said no.

Lately I get the left side pain more often. When I get the right side pain it is really awful. Luckily this only happens a few times a week, but it often feels like someone is stabbing me. It usually lasts about 10 minutes and goes away, sometimes it last longer and sometimes it lingers all day.

The left side pain is a dull pain that almost feels like a slight burning. It kinda feels like something is being stretched inside me or something. Sometimes it goes away and sometimes it gets stronger.

I've noticed that the left side pain can be improved with posture. For example, when I lay down to try to sleep I feel it.But If I sit up very straight it subsides some. As I move my body and bend in different ways it becomes worse.

Still waiting for my next doctor appointment. Hopefully writing down this description will help me when I go in. I always have a really hard time describing the pain.

The pain is pretty much right below the bottom of my ribs on the left side. It kind of extends down the side around my navel.

My pain is lower right quadrant, pretty much over where my appendix use to be. When it gets bad it radiates out, I also have pain that is pretty much right under my bully button

I'm getting some left side and lower abdominal pain, but a lot of mine is still URQ right under the ribs. We spent a while thinking it was my gallbladder like i say, till the HIDA said otherwise lol. Doc now thinks i have small bowel involvement, based in part on the pain location so there's that...

Aideen,

Your pain and experience sounds really similar to mine.

I also had an ultra sound and HIDA scan because they thought it was my gall bladder. Both came back just fine. My doctor seems to think it is just gas causing the RUQ pain, but it seems pretty odd to have that kind of pain on a weekly and sometimes daily basis.

I'm planning to ask about possible small bowel involvement. That is the one thing they never checked. During my colonoscopy they saw some inflammation in the small intestine, but didn't biopsy it (maybe they couldn't?).

The only test I had that could have looked at that area was a CT scan at the ER for some severe diarhea. However, they didn't use any contrast so the GI doctor said it was basically useless.

I have a feeling a doctor switch might be necessary in my case. This doctor has basically said he thinks it is just IBS and the tests are a waste of time. I really think some kind of small bowel test is probably needed in my case. At least for my peace of mind. The pain makes me worry that there is something very wrong in there and that it's just getting ignored.

We did a follow through to check for stricture, which I do not have thankfully. But, docs talking about possible pill cam, the hold up is that it will have to be placed via endoscopy BC of my pyloric stenosis
