pain medication?

Hi I was wondering what can I take to relieve pain? I have a illiostomy but I still feel the uc syptoms because I have about 2 inches that is connected to my rectum still. I'm in pain all the time and I bleed a lot out of my rectum and still have the urgency to use the restroom and feels like I'm have contractions like in childbirth. I dont want to take narcotic drug but I want something that I can take, So I can at least function as I have 4 kids. What do you guys suggest so I can ask my Dr. Besides Tylenol and Ibuprofin.:sign0085:

Hi Maria, and :welcome: . I am sorry that you are in pain. Really besides tylenol there isnt any medication to help w/ pain. If you are having stomach cramps you could ask your doctor for an antispasmodic like Hyoscyamine. Don't take the Ibuprofin. It is bad for people with ibd. You could try a heating pad. I do take a narcotic when the pain is too much for me. It helps a lot. I guess I am used to it though cause it does not make me dizzy or high. I am sorry I wasn't much help. :hang:

I'm sorry to hear about your pain, I know how you feel. I remember going to the Royal Children's Hospital in terrible pain and all they gave me was paracetomol. I hope you find something that works. Best of luck.

Hmm I never heard of that and also I was thinking about getting on some sort of antidepressant so it would be cool to fix 2 problems with just one pill :) I might ask my doc about this.

I take Cymbalta to treat chronic osteoarthritis pain. It works very well for me for osteoarthritis pain but does nothing for belly pain. I have tried other antidepressant for treating pain, amytriptilline worked for me but I had too many side effects. My doctor told me Nortriptyline can sometimes help w/ belly pain, but this one I personally could not tolerate (chronic heart burn). I just wanted to give you the benefit of my personal research of these meds. These meds are not one size fits all. You have to find which one works best for you.

I didn't know antidepressants help with pain.. I actually left a message for my doctor about this because they wanted to try me on some before all this and I declined because I wasn't big on taking medication. Now it's a whole new story I'm up for any help I can get..
