Pain!

I have had my ileostomy for 5 days now and am still getting pain in my intestine. I was wondering how long people had pain for after surgery. I find pain meds don't do anything because the pain isn't constant.

Your intestines are very raw and you can expect pain for a while but it will diminish. Everyone is different but you can expect 6-8 weeks to properly heal. I had pain the first few weeks.

I concur. You can expect to have all sorts of weird pains for the first few weeks, sometimes longer. Your body is going through a major adjustment.

That's what I figured. It is better than what I was going through before the surgery though.

It will only get better and if the pain meds aren't helping let them know and they can switch them

If I recall correctly, it took about 5 weeks for my abdominal pains to go away. Laughing and sneezing pains took the longest, but the first few weeks are the worst. Not much longer until you are pain-free
