Peripheral pain from seton?

Greetings, all.

So, I've had a seton for about a year now. I still have great levels of sensitivity in the immediate seton area and even peripheral pain that can stretch from foot to mid-back. At times I will even get intense pain in my hip girdle and lower glute. My CR says the seton isn't the cause of the problem and that he has never heard of anyone experiencing this. Since this didn't begin until I had my seton placed and intensity seems to correlate to how much pain/drainage I've had from the seton itself, I can't agree with him that the two are unrelated.

Has anyone else heard of this and if there is any relief? The only consistent relief I get is from narcotic pain killers (which, obviously my docs would like to avoid) or a nice, long (6+ hour) sleep.

When I had a seton I had the same type of pain as you. Remember, the whole area is tender. I found that there was more pain when pus would build in the tract. I would try to push out anything in the tract manually. The seton irritates.the tract which in theory is supposed to promote healing. Try to keep the area as clean as possible, this will help. Warm baths with Epson salts are relieving.

Good Luck

Hi there,

I'm sorry I can't answer the question about your seton because I have no experience of them, I just wanted to let you that I was thinking about you and hoping you will be able to find some answers soon. Good luck and welcome to the forum, take care. :ghug:
