Hey guys!

Does anybody have a pet that helps you get through flares? Do you think it's true that your pet will sense your discomfort and try to "cheer you up"?

I have a cat named Beans and she always cuddles with me when I'm sick and even forces her way into the bathroom to hang out with me when I'm in there. Maybe a little weird, but totally cute.

Tell me about your pets and if they help you out! :cat:

I really do!! I have two cats and a dog, and my puppy always knows when I'm sick. He always seems a bit worried and cuddles up next to me all of the time.

in fact, when I went and had my surgery, I was in the hospital for a week and my husband said that he was a wreck the entire time! He kept going to the garage door waiting for me to come in the house and was whining.

I definitely think they know when something is wrong. <3 Love them!

My two cats (Max & Henry) and my kitten Pixie are heaven sent.
Max hangs out with me in the toilet.
Henry curls up under my doona to keep me warm.

I get up in the middle of the night to empty my bag. Little Pixie bounces on the bed for pats and cuddles, then purs until I fall back asleep.
They are absolutely beautiful and they give me extra kitty cuddles when I'm sick.
I adore them and I'd be lost without them.
I call them my white knight, my black prince and my little princess ginger ninja.

My dog is so wonderful to have around! She knows when I'm not feeling well, physically and emotionally - if I'm crying, she'll come over and try to lick my face and if I'm sick, she lays right beside me.

She's an 8 year old Akita cross that I've had since she was 4 months old. We've been through a lot together - she definitely helps my mood, because all I have to do is take her for a walk or watch her run around the yard and I get an instant boost.

Thanks for telling us about Beans; I don't think it's weird, it's sooo sweet that she comes and hangs out with you in the bathroom!

Hi Samantha!

I absolutely think that our pets pick up on our pain and discomforts. I have cats and a dog and they all have helped me get though my worst flares. My kitties also follow me into the washroom and hang out with me. Just before my surgery last year when I was in the worst pain I've ever been in, my sweet little dog Dominik nervously followed me around the house everywhere I went until my boyfriend got home from work and then he would finally go to his little doggie bed and relax. It really was like as if he was keeping an eye on me...Thank goodness for our furry little friends!

I couldn't begin to tell you how badly off i'd be without my lovely cat, Lily :)

In fact, I am typing this from my bed and she is right beside me.

Loves to come and sit with me in the bathroom and gets very anxious if I shut the door!

It's so true, my cats Hayley and Socks are such angels when I'm sick. They give me extra cuddles and lie in the bed beside me the whole time, I had a bad week this week and neither left my side for two whole days. from bed to bathroom that was it and they sat beside me in the bathroom making sure I was ok.

I don't know how to make this picture less enormous but here's me and beans cuddling while talking you to guys!

Awe! So happy to hear all the furry friends helping us out :)
Love that other people's kitties keep them company in the bathroom too.

Keep the stories coming :)

This is me and my Saphy on the sofa fast asleep at 1pm. I get tired out really easily and some days I just sleep all day and then go to bed and sleep all night and then the same again the next day. It gets a bit boring sleeping for days on end but it's not so bad when you have your furbaby.

I can fall asleep on the sofa and can 100% guarentee that Saphy will be with me when I wake up.

The only downside to cuddling and napping with her is that she sleep talks (meows) and fidgets a lot!

It's her 2nd birthday in 5 days and I am going to spoil her rotten.

If I am poorly, she is always there for me. She cuddles me, massages my tummy and insists on doing it, even if I say no. She checks up on me all the time. If I spend too long in the bathroom she sits outside the door and meows at me. In the mornings when I get up for college, so knows the time I wake up so wakes me up 5 minutes before my alarm for her breakfast. If i'm poorly and can't get out of bed or I need to sleep for longer or whatever, she somehow knows and leaves me alone to rest. She distracts me and makes me laugh.

The scariest part about this? She almost died recently. The vet who speyed her when she was younger did it wrong and didn't remove her ovary properly like he should have. This caused a load of infections leading to an abcess in her womb. We were so close to losing her but she stayed strong. She was so brave, she still looked after me and she was amazing. I'm going to do the same for her. I will be brave, still look after her when i'm poorly and i'm going to get better and stay strong.

I don't know what I would do without Saphy to be honest. She fills that empty space.

But don't get me wrong, she is a nightmare when she wants to be! Hahah!

My youngest cat, Scooter, always seems to know when I'm in need of comforting. When I lay down in bed she sits at the top of my pillow, puts her little paws on either side of head and proceeds to "groom" me. It is extremely relaxing and soothing.

My cats can tell when I am not feeling well. Maggie & Bubba stay close and Maggie will lay on my abdomen right over my terminal ileum! She usually is not one to cuddle. Once I started prednisone and began my manic house cleaning they got a little freaked out, they were so use to me being in bed or on the couch. And yes like all cats, they join me in the bathroom and hate closed doors! Pets are great, I cannot imagine not having them!

Samantha, that is a great pic of you and Bean!

My dog was amazing when I wasn't well. She passed away 5 years ago now, but she was always protective and would always come and sit with me if I was upset. I went through a rough childhood sometimes and if I was sitting on the floor crying she'd come and sit right close next to me just to be there.

This is her, just because she was amazing :)

And this is her with me many years ago when we were both small

I used to joke that my cats helped me learn how to nap, which I need to do most days just to make it through. Although they often want to lay on my abdomen which is really the opposite of helpful.

Animals are empathic, they are here to help us. Sometimes here to teach us! My late Chase (RIP) kept me alive, and I mean that. If it werent for him, I'd have given up. Sadly when he did pass, I had the worst flare, and Stan was born.

After surgery, my Joby and Freya kept me going. And I had to promise Joby it was ok to go, I wouldnt get sick again, before he would pass. He was 19 1/2 years old...a German Shepherd! I cant let him down, I promise not to get that sick again!

Animals are SO MUCH more than we give them credit for. They are there to help and heal us. Unconditional love cannot seem to be given by humans like it can by animals. They dont have the blocks we have to love. Love is healing. Thank you all animals, for your comfort and unconditional love. And thanks for being there.

I have a Cairn terrier called Nell & a Lurcher called meg. I love them both so much & they keep me going through everything.
Meg was great when my girls were very young. She always used to bark & wake me up in the night just before one of my daughters was about to be sick. It was like she had a sixth sense. She never barked otherwise.

Terriernut - so true what you say about unconditional love. My dog was the perfect example of that. Amazing, isn't it?

My cat Ginger is awesome! Though I feel a bit bad.... She use to love to sleep ontop of my belly for years and years, now I can't take the pain. She has learned and will now sleep in my lap or on the top of the backrest of the couch while I lay on it.

Ginger usually follows me everywhere too, including the bathroom. She sits there and watches the shower in case it eats me~ Can not close the door to the bathroom with her outside or she paws at it and will throw herself against it to try and knock it down for fear that something bad is happening to me in the bathroom.

My dog Hank won't take no for an answer when I am not feeling well! He wants to be right next to me or on my bed laying across my legs. All 99 lbs of him!!

Wouldn't trade it for anything!
