Has anyone on here had an issue with Pilonidal Cysts? I'm on remicade so that complicates things. They say it's not Crohn's related, but I would imagine the Crohn's and Remicade make them harder to treat. Right now my doctor wants to just keep it dry and see if it can get better. They have me using corn starch baby powder. I've been using meshy gauze pads to keep it dry on extra humid days.

What other treatments have people had?

They say I have 2 pits but no acute abscesses. They have ruled out fistulas.

I haven’t had a Pilonidal cyst, only looked after them post surgical intervention.

They are aren’t Crohn’s related and I hope the doctor did explain to you what the causes are.

As a general rule even a cyst requires a course of broad spectrum antibiotics, along the measures similar to those you have in place. Was this discussed with you?

What is the plan, how long do you continue with this treatment before seeing the doctor again?

They have treated it with broad spectrum antibiotics. I've been told it has become chronic because my "gluteal cleft" is very deep and doesn't get air to it. While Crohn's wasn't a direct cause, the extra wiping a lot of us have to do and Remicade hasn't helped.

That surely is a double whammy. :(

Are you hairy? If so shaving the area can help keep them at bay, mind you, not the easiest area to shave, or is it purely down to the deep gluteal cleft?

It's only deep in the cleft. They were suggesting hair removal could help, but not solve it. Some drs are suggesting a "cleft lift" procedure as it tends to heal better. There are not a ton of drs that perform that.
