So I had a perianal abscess, boo :( The doctor decided to cut and drain it and then she laid it open to clean the abscess out. It didn't develop into a fistula yet, but I went to get surgery anyway to clean out the infection and lay it open (similar to a fistulotomy)

I healed pretty well, that was 3.5 months ago EXCEPT there is a small cavern which is discharging slipper clear (yellow tinge but not pus yellow, clear) liquid. The doctor looked at it again 1.5 weeks ago and said "i was healing weird". She poked around and said she wants to prevent a fistula from happening so she granulized the area with a poker and then put this burning silver thing on it. I think she wants to restart the healing process.

Now, I have a little tunnel/cavern, the same size as before (she said it wasn't a fistula) and it is still now and then showing a little clear sticky/slipper liquid. It doesn't stain my clothes but if I put toilet paper on it, i can see it.

What is this? Is this from the anal crypts? Or is this "healing fluids"? Should I worry? Thank you.

I am going through the same thing but had a fistula oblasion, and it did not work, so now the only way for me to heal is to go in for surgery to get a temporary colostom. Mine leaks the clear fluid and blood.

Good Luck, I hope the procedure that she did for you works!!!:

heya,
it could be normal 'healing fluids' like you mentioned, a little bit of clear fluid is often normal while wounds are healing. after my abscess surgery i was told to watch out for extra/funny smelling fluid or redness and more pain around where my abscess was as well as fevers because they might indicate an infection but, for me, just having some fluid by itself was alright.

are you able to call your dr or nurse to let them know whats happening and see what they think?

good luck!

Here is a bad follow up: The drainage stopped because the outside finally healed up. I'd be happy but again, the abscess reformed due to the premature healing and it opened itself up after a couple days of pain. It's weird, it doesn't seem like crazy infection, but it just keeps draining like mucus. Why won't it stop? Any suggestions? Thanks

I've been going through this for about two years this time around. I'm going in now for a temporary ileostomy on the 19th.

How are you doing now? Are you getting some healing?

Hey briny.

I know your doctor said it wasn't a fistula, but it definitely sounds like one.. It could be that the abscess cavern is still not healed, but the original point of entrace is. The poker thing is silver nitrate... Fun, isn't it? :p

I have a full fledged fistula that secretes this kind of stuff. I know it's from the fistula itself, and not what the fistula connects to, because it only started happening when the fistula started. So I'm going to assume that the yellow stuff you're talking about is just pus oozing from the wound, because it isn't healing. I wouldn't worry more than your doctor is worried :)

hey!
sorry i didn't reply earlier, i just saw this!! the drainage stopping and then the pain followed by more drainage sounds exactly like my fistula.
personally, i waiting to have surgery to try and fix it but i don't have a crohn's diagnosis and i know that surgery is used more on people without ibd.
to help with pain etc though i would recommend sitz baths. which is warm water and epsom salt that you soak in. i just fill a normal bathtub but i think you can buy special things that sit in/on you toilet bowel. i'm not actually sure about them though!
also, if you find you're having a lot of pain, extra drainage etc you could make an appt to get some antibiotics. my dr normally prescribes a week or 10 day dose of augmentin and flagyl (but most people seem to get given cipro and flagyl) and it definitely settles everything down for a bit.

i hope some of that helps!!

i'm suffering right now from same
i had my operation on 8th june
and after that doc said that due to excess apply of metrogel ointment
my affected area(i.e., lieft foot-heel) was surrounded by dead skin
later he said to keep it as dry as possible
but i'm struggling to that since a yello tiched very less viscous liquid is oozing out continuously. I tryin to wipe it but it is not stopping!
i used dettol to clean it and Wokadine!!
now iwat should i do pls :sign0085:
i cant stand up for long as it pains little!!
anyway to control the liquod as doctor says the base of my injury is healed perfectly jus keep it dry!!
pls HELP i cant go out to consult doc as i cant walk !!! pls
thank u

For me, I overreacted a lot. You need to follow doctor's orders as much as possible. Stop poking it and looking at it as you don't know as much as the dr. Wash it often. Sometimes I would spray water at it to clean. It will hurt in the first week or so but does get better. Please be patient as well. But keep on with the hot baths.

Hi everyone

I just have to ask what is an abcess cavern is this the same as a fistula? If an abcess ruptures is this the same as a fistula? Will doctors always suggest surgery to fix fistulas? I don't understand an awful lot about them and I am worried I have one at the moment and am just waiting to see a gynaecologist

Any info would be helpful thanks guys x

no. an abscess is an infection and a pocket of pus. This may form a fistula which is a tract from that pocket to somewhere else. For the most part fistulas may need surgery. best to ask a dr
