Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with Crohn's and thought okay, this isn't so bad. Three days ago a huge flareup started and I feel like I am burning from my stomach throughout my bowels. I feel nauseated and have pain in my back and feel sick even when I drink water. What should I try to eat? My c-reactive protein is very high; my husband took me to emergency today as I thought it may be a gall bladder attack; they said not and that my body was full of inflammation. I am scared and know I need to eat. I don't see my doctor for over a week yet. Thank you so much.

Greetings and welcome,

You poor thing, I'm so sorry you're having to endure this. My heart goes out to you :(

If you're having that much trouble even when you drink water then I'd suggest looking into enteral nutrition. That could be as simple as heading to Wal Mart and picking up some Boost or Ensure. Hopefully you could keep some of that down and get some of those vital nutrients.

Would you be interested in sharing what tests you had done to diagnose the Crohn's and what meds you're on?

Either way, I'm really glad you joined. We're here for you!

Hi and welcome! The first flare can be a bit scary. I am glad you are able to see your doctor in a week. For the meantime, I suggest sticking to a low residue diet. Foods include toast, chicken, rice, crackers, applesauce for example. All of these foods are easy to digest and shouldn't irritate inflammation when passing. I can also eat yogurt, eggs, and cheese, but some people have an issue with dairy.

I hope you feel better soon! Hang in there!

Thank you -- I have had a colonoscopy and a gastroscopy done and very recently a capsule endoscopy (swallowing a little camera) for confirmation of Crohn's. The only medication I am on is Nexium -- I am scared about having to go on steroids which willl shut down my immune system. I see my doctor in a week.

Hi mmoors, personally I think you need to keep a balance of good and bad bacteria in your stomach. I usually avoid milk because the process of homogenisation and pasteurization isnt good enough to completely rid the milk of harmful bacteria. But, some people are fine with it. Soft foods like bananas are good to eat as they will not irritate your insides on the way down. Make sure you chew properly too i had some pistachios not long ago that almost sent me to hospital! Most people on this site have been on a steroid of some description and you can read their stories on this site. Also, your doctor appointment is a little away, in the meantime, you need to have as little stress as possible and do something to take your mind off it, if possible. Read, watch TV etc. anything that takes your mind off the crohn's
