I started my first course of Pred on Monday 40mg daily and by Tuesday morning felt wonderful and was singing its praises. I have got up this morning feeling shocking and constantly on the loo. Surely it couldn't have stopped working this quickly could it? I don't know wot to do. Could it be a blip or can the Pred stop working as early as day 5? Please help as I am still so new to this and don't know what to do. :crabby1:

I just signed up to the forum yesterday and cant really give any advice but i have tried prednisone x4 pills a day and x8. If u felt better yesterday and not today it could have been something that u ate maybe today that caused it. Try to be extremely cautious what u eat and don't rely on the prednisone alone to make the pain go away. I read somewhere on here that it may take some time to work and i know on days when i felt good i would sometimes take it for granted and have a beer or eat something i knew was wrong and payed for it later. Good luck and hang in there and hopefully u get some good advice soon.

Hi Pammy. It might be that you have eaten something that you are sensitive to. It might be an idea to keep a food diary to help you identify foods that aggravate your symptoms.

but it only seems to happen when i don't get enough sleep? [/QUOTE said:
I have had crohn's for 30+ years now and I can definitely say that the symptoms seem far worse when I am tired. I used to work shifts (earlies and lates) and things were really bad by the end of the week. Now I work days and that has helped a lot.

25 years here and I truly support what Dave says. Crohns people need to make sure they get sleep. Take it from Dave and I, get your sleep.

Thats the one thing I cant seem to get much of at the moment, n matter how hard I try I seem not to be able to go to sleep til after 3am and am awake at 6,30am and can't even doze during the day. My biggest lie in, in the last week, has been 7.30am which was this morning. I am trying everything to sleep but my muscles seem to ache all the time and I cant get comfy in bed, even to the point of crying in my bed with frustration. Any ides anybody please? xxxx

Pammy, I found I could not sleep well on the pred. Now that I am off the pred I have no problems sleeping. Best wishes!

pammy - on another post somewhere, I read that a primary care physician had prescribed Tylenol 3 to someone to help them sleep with their Crohns or IBD at night and it worked for them.

Thanx for all the advice guys. Sleep is going from bad to worse and for some reason my feet seem to be so hot they feel like they are on fire, especially at night. I don't know whether this is anything to do with the Crohns, the Pred or something completely unrelated. Have tried wrapping my feet in a cold wet towel but it doesn't help much. Am being driven insane(well more insane than I already am LoL). Once again guys, here comes the question. Any ideas, hints or tips? Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanx xxxx

Hi pammypants i had problems sleeping when i first started on the pred (currently on 45mg) i found best thing that helped me is taking it as early in the day as possible i.e with breakfast. Found it helped so maybe worth a try? hope things get better for you!! xx

Thanx xSophiexx. I take the Pred at 6.30am every morning, well 7am this morning. Had a whole 27mins more sleep this morning. Yay!!! Just gets really frustrating as I am so so tired but the sleep is not forthcoming. The positive and helpful comments on here really do keep me going tho and it is comforting to know I am not alone. Big hugs to all. xxxxx

I'm currently on a pred taper, at 30mg and when I was at a higher dose, (started at 60mg) I couldn't sleep much either. However, I found that if I did active things during the day, instead of just lay in bed all day, my body couldn't help but fall asleep. I'm not sure if you feel up to doing anything but lay in bed, but if you are, try to go for a walk or go out shopping for a new dress or new top or something.

Sleep is important because its when your body heals.

As for the thing with the feet, that used to happen to me too, but not with my feet, with my cheeks. My cheeks were get so red and flushed and they were hot to the touch. I'm assuming its a side effect of the Pred, because now that I'm on a lower dose of Pred, it doesn't happen much anymore.
