Hi

Have been on Prednisolone (+Humira+Azza) for less then a week now, and im having pretty severe joint pain. Especially the hips are getting worse every day. Not while idling, but when moving my legs in an angle (not walking forward).
Is this a side affect of pred, or something else? Should i call my doctor or what?

Hi Nisso,

I can't recall if this is a side effect of Prednisone specifically, but this is not that uncommon for people with IBD.

I know that a lot of people have had some success dealing with joint pain by increasing their omega 3 intake. This is usually the easiest to do by taking fish oil as a supplement.

Thr joint pain is a symptoms of flares quite often. I have read of people react to humira with joint pain around the time of their doses. I have never heard of joint pain as a direct symtpoms/side of pred.

My legs ache so badly for the short time I was on it. I haven't felt pain there before I was ever on it. That drug weakens your body.

OKa.. Will try increasing Omega3 intake. Just cant stand the thought of feeling better, which i really am feeling now, and not beeing able to move properly. Think ill see my chiropractor next week, just in case.
Thanks all

I think I remember reading at least a couple of people saying Pred gave them joint pain. But maybe it was the taper. My joints have felt amazing since I started taking it.

Hope your joints start feeling better soon though.

Joint pain goes!

Heya i was on prednisone for 9weeks tapering down and i got terrible back joint pain near my tail bone and hips, it was hard to sit and sleep! i also had terrible insomnia and got bad skin as its a congestion and blocks your pores.

But dont worry because when i finished taking it, within days my sore joints went away almost instantly! and i slept so well, the skin takes longer. The prednisone does work fast and gets rid of inflammation so its well worth it.

Dont use anti-inflammatory pills as it worsens ur tummy, but use heat packs and treat yourself to a massage! I did see my chiro but they couldnt help much, abit of yoga and basic stretching is good too

I hope this is still helpful

azathioprine 200mg

Okay.. So been on the pred for 2 weeks now, and have started tapering.
My food intake has gone from 1-2 meals a day to one loong meal :p Eating a lot, and have gained 6kg+. AND the moon face is sneaking in :s i am feeling a lOt better, (except for a few days of pain), and really hoping this will work.

Increasing Omega 3 (incl Vit A D E) seames to have helped a lot. Donno if its just a coincidence, but the joint pain is all gone. Starting on some ekstra calcium+vit k as well, just in case (low on the dairy stuff).

Also im considering going liquid. Remision is highly wanted, and right now ill do anything to make it last.

Nico

Every time I taper from Pred I get horrible joint/muscle pain. This last time I was off Pred for a week and the joint/muscle pain started. The pain is everywhere.........ugh ! But for me it only lasts a week. So I only have 4 more days to endure the pain !

Yeah, if anyone here saying it isnt pred, its because they havent suffered that side effect. I always feel weakened joints when I am taking pred, pain when I am tapering, but definitely some pain when I am even taking it. I would tell your gastro doctor exactly what you have been feeling - we shouldnt have to endure really terrible side effects that can damage us for a long time. The pain you are having does not sound good and should be discussed immediately. I've felt minor joint pain so i know its possible that pred causes joint pain so maybe in your case it is cauing more than usual joint pain. Please talk to your doctor!
