Has anyone else had to deal with a considerable amount of weight gain while taking prednisone? Most of mine is fluid retention but I have gained almost 50lbs in the last four months!! It's getting quite frustrating and I'm tired if dealing with people judging me by my weight. I actually had a family member tell me they believed I was pretending to be ill to get attention because I looked fine!
I'm considering asking my doctor about lasix or some other type of fluid retention medication. Any thoughts?

Hello, sorry for what you are going through. Weight gain can happen.
Many of us hear how 'well' we look, good and bad since we somehow feel an occasional need to prove we are ill. Do these people really need proof? No one has ever been able to actually show a headache, or how many want to prove they have diarrhea, inflammation, damaged bowels, etc. lol. Who is this grand puba 'family member' to question how you are feeling. Should they do a poop check? Just how in depth do they need to know?

Hang in there! Ask your Dr. if it would be possible to try Entocort, and tell your concern of weight gain.

You should definitely be weaning off the pred by now. If not you need to find out why not as that is already a long time to be on it. Once you wean down a lot of the weight will go but you still might be left with some. At least my son was.

If you start to flare during the wean I would also ask for Entocort instead of pred. Has a much lower side effect profile and most people get few if any systemic effects although some do react similar to prednisone.

But the bottom line is you should be on a maintenance med by now and be weaning.
