Hi , it's me again,

Im currently having a flare up which has been goin on since about the 12th Jan, I was in hospital with it for 5 days with pain and very bloody D and nausea whilst in hospital i was given a course of Metronidazole, i was then released from hospital had a week off work to rest and things slowly started to improve. the bloody D stopped and was having normal BM's but was still getting pain (all this time im taking my asacol 4800mg, 30mg Pred and pred foam enema's) i've been getting by taking trammadol and paracetamol for pain. But these last 3 days the bloody D is back and just as bad as it was in hospital, im getting the abdominal pain again, im not nausea's though.i spoke to meds (Isle of Man out of hours doctors service) and was recommended to take 40mg Pred which ihave been doing, I've spoken to my GI and he said he can't do anything till i have my colonoscopy on the 16th Feb and just keep taking the Pred at 40mg. I was sent home from work today because couldn't move from the toilet and was taking the trammadol which make me quite drowsy and as i work in healthcare i really need to be on the ball. So my question is : isn't the pred supposed to get rid of this inflammation, i mean im getting all these not very nice pred side affects and seeing none of the benefit, I thought after 3 weeks the inflamation should be going. I am currently (last week) been on a low residue diet, is it possible that this is making it worse ? :sign0085:

I've had a flare myself for a few months prior to xmas,. My doctor gave me Pred 40 mg when I saw him on jan 5th and this week I am feally very much better. Everything seems to be getting back to normal. I'm no doctor and I have to assume that sometimes medecine will work for one and maybe not for another.

I can only tell you what I have been through. I know when I was younger I use to take a lot more pred and when I dropped to 50 mg or so I would flare again.

Sorry I can't help more. I do hope you get better soon.

Up the dose of pred. Take 60 for several days, then start dropping back down. That may help...

Pred never seems to work for me, even at 60mg. Last flare, after the pred didn't work, they put me on a biologic and tapered me off the pred. This flare, pred didn't work but still taking it along with Cimzia (biologic) AND 6MP. We'll see if it works from here. My GO told me that Pred simply doesn't work for some people. It sucks to take it and get no results only side effects. Hope you find something that helps soon!

@ThanksP - If Prednesone doesn't work for you then why do they have you still taking it? I"m confused.

@Joleen23 - Can you call and put your name in if anyone cancels - maybe you can get in earlier for that colonsocopy? Geeze...are you supposed to just suffer and wait for the 16th? I don't like your GI - why can't he get you in earlier? Maybe after a day or two of 40mg you will start to feel better...keep us posted!

Spingirl, my doctor thinks that it may work better in combination with the other drugs. I can't reall say if it does or doesn't. But this time we are trying it for a shorter amount of time so we can rule it out for sure.

Been to my GP today and started a course of Metro (flagyl) again. She said if no improvement by Monday then she would like to admit me to hospital again :-(

I just got over a month long flare-up. It took a combination of Humira, 60mg Prednisone, Imuran, Entocort, Flagyl and Lialda to put me back into remission.

Hang in there.

Joleen23 - sorry to hear this but I am glad someone is doing something for you and not making you juts sit and wait for the colonoscopy. Your GI doctor should have helped you when you called him. Your GP sounds much better. I hope the Flagyl works for you and you don't have to go to the hospital. Keep us posted.
