I'm back on Prednisone (50Mg) and i was wondering if the swollen cheeks can be prevented ??? I hate the Swelling that comes with the drug. Is there anything i can do to prevent or reduce the swelling???

Prednisone

This is a drug that helps - but the side effects are horrible. My daughter and myself have both been there and done that. Not much you can do for it.
Hopefully, y ou won't have to be on it too long.

When I was on it, I was told that eating less sodium would help the swelling. I didn't notice much of a difference though.

The cheek swelling was a grand contender for the worst side effect of prednisone, simply because of how horrible it made me feel. Along with that, everyone thought I was in remission or something because it followed a huge loss of weight (from flaring badly), and they thought I'd been "healed" because I looked "fuller". Pred sucks.

i am in the same boat. i have taken prednisone once before for about a week, but recently after a flare-up i was put on it for a bit of a long-haul...I was at 40mg for a month and now i'm on the taper down and currently at 30mg a day. i noticed some side effects about 2.5-3 weeks in and it started with my cheeks feeling a bit rounder as well as i started getting some bad acne on my back and chest. oh, and i would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night needing to pee. that has never happened before.

not to threadjack or anything, but does anyone know when the side effects start to decline? i won't be off of this drug for another month or so, so will i have to wait till then to notice anything? or does it start to fade as you lower the dosage?

I'm on pred and only have a few more days left and thank God that is one of the side effects I don't have. Best of luck to all who get that though. I do have some water weight on my stomach area that makes me look much bigger than I am.

in hospital on IV steroids i got jelly belly, man boobs, puffy face and a shoulder hump from the swelling. hated it!

and i dont know of anything that gets rid of it:(

My cheeks started to shrink some as I entered the final sub 10 mg doses, and within 4-6 weeks after stopping all pred were nearly back to normal.

Who'd have thought, because the cheeks started going down, people started thinking I was losing weight again, in actuality I had gained a few pounds of muscle back because I wasn't bed-ridden and the atrophy had started to reverse. Some people never get it.
