Is there a short term bump of Prednisone like a 7 day pack that sometimes a doctor can give you just to get you back on track from a flare up?

I've personally not heard of such a short course of Prednisone, maybe for something like poison ivy but not for IBD.

i have had crohn's for 21 years and had many flare ups but, i hate to tell you this but a 7 day trial of predisone will not work for a crohn's flare up i just have had recent flare up and now i am on predisone for 8 weeks that's the only thing that helps it. i was on 8x7weeks 5mg tabs and i cut myself back to one each week for 8 weeks. there is no short term solution to predisone treatment but a full trial. if it clears up in 7 days it's not crohn's.

HI CD13,
I had no side effects to the predisone like that. It's just frustrating when a (flare up) happens you do anything to keep it under control before it gets worse. To tell you the truth i'd rather predisone that most other drugs. They are to dangerous to deal with and to many side effects. i am recently taking Asacol 400mg 3x daily, dicetel 100 3 x daily, modulin 200mg 3 x daily.Currently taking more predisone but no side effects and i only limit myself from eating certain foods, i stay away from anything that say's fibre. i'm currently on boost a drinkable no lactose, gluten free, nutritional drink and water filtered. some clear sodas, and everything that i do eat i have it boiled first.

The swelling or water retention from Prednisone depends on the dose and how long you're on it. I didn't notice any swelling until I was taking 40mg+ for 3 months+. Short courses of it do nothing as mentioned.
