Hi everyone,

I was wondering if whoever on this Forum that has just ulcerative proctitis can explain their symptoms during a flare, and also if constipation is ever an issue with proctitis?

I can only speak for my-self as every one's different. When first diagnosed,I had bleeding, mucos, urgency and felt generally unwell.I am on asacol suppositories as maintenance and generally do very well.On occassion,I stop using them to see if I'm "cured" but after a few weeks usually flare, and am back to square one. I suffer from urgency, but occassionally have constipation, for no apparent reason, try as I might to explain it.I get immediate back ache and headaches and bloating, but luckily it only lasts a short while.I take Pysyllium husk capsules and drink lots of water.Best Wishes.

My proctitis flares consisted of bleeding, rectal swelling, major urgency and tenesmus, mucus, very stinky wind and feeling very run down. This then progressed on to severe diarrhea and other symptoms as the disease itself progressed.

I've never had issues with constipation...only diarrhea.

Thanks for the replies guys I have never met anyone else with UC so have never gotten others inputs till I found this Forum, it is. very comforting. When I first started getting flares I had problems with Extreme urgency, and diarrhea, but after a couple years my symptoms became very mild. What I'm concerned with is it seems everyone on this forum needed meds to help with their flares and it seems a lot of ppl who started off with proctitis moved on to colitis even while on meds. Is it unusual that I havenr gotten worse in ten years? And am I putting myself in danger for risk of cancer or something else by not using medication? I would like to someday get help but without insurance its pretty much impossible for me to afford the doctor visits and whatever prescriptions I might need. Right now my symptom
s are annoying but still manageable. The only thing I'm concerned with is the bleeding because I found out I was slightly anemic two years ago and from then to now my flares have been lasting longer and longer, especially my current one and im now starting to feel the effects of the anemia like shortness of breath and tiring very easily. I just feel hopeless sometimes knowing theres a way i could take care of myself and feel normal But it might as well be impossible at this time in my life. Sorry for the pity party just needed to vent I guess.

I had my colonoscopy 2 weeks ago and the bottom line was "proctisis". I have bad urgency at times and very loose stools (not water but really soft). No blood. I need to know where the toilets are when I go places. Not good.

I have a repeat loperamide 'script, which helps enormously, especially if I need to be somewhere early in the day.I try not to use it if I don't need to,but it is def. my "security blanket"
