In an effort to get more nutrition and gain some weight back, I am trying out some protein drinks. However, I can't have lactose as I am lactose intolerant. Also, I really don't like a ton of sugar or sweeteners in my protein shakes, it makes me super bloated. I've been looking into egg white protein, specifically this one http://www.nowfoods.com/M003393.htm. Have any of you used this/ heard about this? If not, could you recommend any protein powder/shakes that you tolerate and that (preferably) don't taste to bad. I'm pretty new to all of this protein stuff, so I'm lost. Right now I'm drinking Muscle Milk, but it has whey in it (even though it says it's lactose free), and it's really sweet. Thanks guys!

If you are having it to purely put on weight, 75kcals per serving is not a lot at all.

I would look at mass builders which can give 1000kcals per serving.

A lot do contain milk, but as it also contains lactose enzmes it is (supposedly) fine for people with lactose intolerance.

I've tried USN hyperbolic mass and Sci-mx Omni hardcore, which I find taste pretty nice and have helped me gain weight

Are you inflamed? Strictures? If not I think Vega is a great mix to gain weight and nutrition. There is also Spirutein which is a protein powder comprised of various healthy sources.

Hello, not sure where you are but we just stumbled on Rockin Refuel with 20 gr of Protein and 0 Lactose!! Comes in Chocolate ~ Found at Winco.
Not a protein powder but pretty darn good and easy.

Best to you on your weight gain.

Protein shakes go right through me. Liquid in liquid out and fast. You may tolerate them but I'd suggest buying a small quantity and trying it.

garden of life vegetable protein is very easy on the digestive system and has pre and probiotics and 17g of protein per scoop, the new bob marley coffee raw protein tastes really good too...

If you go to a dedicated supplement store, they will be able to help you immensely. The one I have here helped me find a protein powder that is artificial sweetener and preservative free, gave me some free samples to take home and even let me taste some in store!

If you are looking for lactose free whey, whey concentrate and blends generally contain lactose, where isolate and hydrolysed whey isolate do not. Iso whey and a Hydro whey are also both faster absorbed and more bio-available than the standard concentrates, but tend to cost a marginal amount more on average.

Personally I use Optimum Nutrition's Natural Gold, which does contain lactose, but it doesn't affect me. It contains Lactase which is the enzyme that breaks down lactose, so I'm not sure if it would adversely affect you at all. It tastes alright on its own, but mixing it in with foods and smoothies are better methods of ingesting it I've found.

I also use 'Nectar' by Syntrax which I have found mixes particularly well with water. It isn't very high in energy on its own, but is still good for meeting protein reqs if you seem to be lacking. Some of the nectar line are completely free of artificial colours, sweeteners, flavours, preservatives and also gluten and lactose which benefits me being aggravated by aspartame and sulphites. Definitely get a sample if you find sweetness overbearing though, because these Syntrax powders are ridiculously reminiscent of lollies.

I hope this helps you a little and I'm sure there's a powder to suit you; just don't hesitate to ask for samples! They will save you from having to plough through a bucket of crappy tasting powder....
