We took Skyler into have some testing done by the GI since Kota was dx with Crohns a couple of months ago. Plus Skyler has always had issues with his stomach hurting.

GI office told me all lab results were normal. We are still waiting on result from stool sample. I had a copy of the labs mailed out to me.

Everything does say normal other than a few things. I am still trying to learn about all this stuff but was hoping maybe someone could tell me about these lab results that dont say normal. What are they and should I be concerned because they are either high or low?

Thanks so much

ALBUMIN/ GLOBULIN RATIO 2.3 Normal is 1.0-2.1 (CALC) High
AST 11 Normal is 12-32 U/L Low
GGT 8 Normal is 9-31 U/L Low

LittlebitsMommy-

I am not sure what the blood work means.

But- what I do know is that at the time of my diagnosis all my labs were normal. Yet I still had Crohns. My Dr told me every test for Crohns could be negative and you can still have it. Thats why it is so hard for some people to get a correct diagnosis. I have always wondered if "guys" have an easier time getting the dx. When one Dr gave me an RX for valium instead of refilling my meds (moved from Seattle to Austin) I wanted to jump over the deak at him. :voodoo: Instead I ripped it up said no thank you and found another Dr.

I hope things turn out well for you and your family!:ghug:

Mayor Dusty and The Brain I love shall happen in I hope and explain them for you so well.

I can second what Tots said though...V's labs look like that, either all normal or just a point or two off, (except for stool values) and she still has Crohn's. Even her hgb is only a point below normal.

Now, Skyler could have IBS, not IBD, which presents a lot the same.

Thanks!

GI doctor said he didnt think Skyler would have it.. He didnt look like someone with Crohns :ywow: Then say but Kota doesnt look like someone with Crohns either

What exactly does someone with Crohns look like

Im crazy about looking at my blood test results...I will say one thing they are always different.

It sounds like your doctor had something called a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel done. It's not something I've educated myself about yet so don't want to comment but you can read about it here if you're so inclined :)

His numbers were normal until they weren't but that was from 6-MP going to his liver.
I know some of his other numbers have been slightly off at times high or low and the GI has not been concerned.

I think you have now got a baseline for Skyler. So say is 12 months or 6 months when for some reason to re test you can say to the Doctor why have his number/results changed.

My example is with my daughter is her B12 levels which are still in normal range, but every test over the last 3 years they got lower. So when she next has this test done I am going to ask the doctor if the results are lower why are the getting lower. How can we stop it?

Since the values are just out of normal it would be worth repeating the tests to see if they are only a "one off".

For those outside the US the test David is referring to, CMP, may be called LFT's (Liver Function Tests) and UEC's (Urea, Electrolytes and Creatinine).

Only going from memory here but a low AST and GGT may point to protein deficiency, malnutrition or vitamin deficiencies. In contrast, in active IBD that is causing damage to organs and tissue you expect the levels to be raised.

On the other hand you would expect to see a low albumin/globulin ratio in autoimmune diseases such as IBD. A high ratio may point to an under production of immunoglobulins as would be seen in some genetic deficiencies and some blood disorders.

I hope your litte guy is okay hun and remember, my explanation is not gospel, my memory isn't that fab!
