I have Crohns's in the small bowel, for many years. I just recently had a colonoscopy done, hadn't had one in a few years, so the scope results were that I have hemmorhoids. I wasn't surprised because I was getting small amounts of blood at times. I am still getting the same amount of bleeding from time to time, my question is, how would I know if the bleeding is the hemmorhoids or something else to do with the crohns? This is my first experience with passing blood, so I am new at it.

Thanks for all the help!

I don't think you can really distinguish hemorrhoid bleeding from other rectal bleeding, but rectal bleeding can be distinguished from bleeding higher up. Rectal bleeding is bright red, and it's usually right on the toilet paper after wiping, or dripping in the bowl.

If the blood is mixed in with the stool, or darker in color, it's probably from higher up. Black stool is blood from much higher up, but that's an easy one to identify.

I have had a lot of rectal bleeding from fissures, and mine was always bright red, streaked across the paper. I physically felt my anus tearing, and then burning afterwards. If you don't have that sensation, it's probably your hemorrhoids.

Ok, thanks. I do notice after certain bowel movements it is present, especially if I have had too much caffeine.
