So the doctor said stay away from things with skins and nuts... I assume this is because they are difficult to digest and/or could cause obstruction.

I just want to check on this and find out if people with Crohn's can generally tolerate ground nuts, and pureed fruits and veggies.

If I food process whole tomatoes to make a sauce, would that likely be tolerated?

I do know everyone is different in what s/he can tolerate.

Thanks!

Hi xmdmom,

We were told the same thing... since Stephen was diagnosed, we have, for the most part, eliminated seeds, pieces of nuts (ie smooth peanut butter is fine), and skins.

He has had tomato seeds, here and there, in (non-homemade) pizzas, pasta, etc. and has had some blueberries but, otherwise, has avoided all other seeds. (When I make sauce at home, I strain his sauce.) So far, this small amount of seeds hasn't been an issue.

As for skins, he's never been much of a fruit/veggie eater anyway but, now sticks to melons, pineapple, orange, etc. and all veggies are pureed in soup (but this is simply due to his 'pickiness' not because of the fibre).

My understanding is that the seeds, nuts, skins are more of an issue when there is active inflammation, thickening, etc.; I think it's less of a concern if all is well... although, even when well, I have continued to avoid almost all in Stephen's diet.

:)
