I almost feel stupid asking this...

DS has what looks like a prickly heat rash on his forehead. Admittedly, it could be acne with puberty kicking in, but quite honestly, I can't tell. It just reminds me of babies with heat rash. Kind of small, bumpy, red spots all over. It does itch and bother him. Acne wouldn't itch, right?

I can't think of anything, soaps or whatever, that he's using that would cause this. We even us gluten free shampoo. Overall, he's still feeling fine, but skin changes can sometimes precede flares, right?

I hate blaming everything on Crohn's... what do you think?

A had a similar rash on her thighs. It didn't itch, but was painful when touched. I now believe it was a reaction to the 6-mp because it went away shortly after she stopped taking it.

Could be a medication reaction is there anything new he is taking? If it doesn't get better I would give thy doctor a call.

What do you wash your laundry with? I'm thinking...his pillow case? Sounds like an allergy. It being only on his forehead makes me think it isn't medicine...I'd think that'd be on his trunk...but i'm just guessing, of course.

How long has it been there?

No new meds or supplements lately... like in months. No changes in the laundry soap either and believe it or not even that is gluten free, just to be safe. I'd say the rash has been around two weeks now? It's not getting worse, but not better either.

The only thing I can think of is that he's growing his hair out so his bangs are almost to his eyebrows now. You know that old Bieber look. Maybe his hair is irritating the skin?

Maybe it is just acne? He came off pred three weeks ago so if another growth spurt is coming on the timing would be about right. I'm being paranoid, aren't I? Parental version of PTSD.

He has a reg GI appt on Nov 4th.

My 8 yr old son was on prednisone for a total of 5 mos-Apr to Aug. About 2 mos in, he started developing acne on his forehead (along with all the other typical prednisone side affects). Although it's been almost 2 mos since he finished the prednisone, the acne persists. It's not spreading, but every couple of days there are new pimples on his forehead. The last 2 days he's had 1 big one right between his eyes! Poor kid, he's only 8! Now I'm wondering if I should be more concerned, but I still tend to think it's the prednisone still floating around in his system. Could this be the case with your son too? Let me know if you find another cause.

Is he on Remicade? I just got through with a lesion on my scalp. After four biopsies, I found out that I had inflammation of the hair follicles caused by Remicade.

He's only on Aza. Wow, never heard of inflammation of hair follicles. Does that hurt??

CKMom - I'm kind of wondering about the pred, or lack thereof now.

when I was around his age I started wanting to grow my hair out and my mom had always kept my hair short...the combination of longer bangs and puberty led to me having a rash on my forehead that wouldnt go away. I hadnt been diagnosed with crohn's yet (I was just diagnosed this year) but it was a persistent rash and I hadnt had acne before. Turns out it was acne and they gave me some kind of special soap that helped but still wouldnt make it go away. Then my mom forced me to get a haircut for the holidays and it cleared right up. But I still have sensitive skin, especially on my forehead, and the Entocort I have been on has caused it to be worse than it has been since I was a teen. If I wear hats regularly I get terrible acne up there...
