I have an NG tube down as I am on a liquid diet, and on the 7th of May we are taking the tube out and I can slowly start re-introducing food again.

I was told to avoid foods high in fat and fibre, so no fruit, no veg, no bacon...etc. The other day I was thinking about what im going to eat first when im allowed to. What I wanted to eat was a cheese and cucumber wrap from subway..but not allowed fruit or veg.. so I wanted a ham roll.. but butter and ham are fatty.. So I went searching for foods low in fat and fibre.. and havnt had much luck.

Can anyone suggest something that will be good to eat in the first week?
Also, I was given two easter eggs from my hospital to take home for when I can eat, but I have to eat them within the first week of me being allowed food or theyll go out of date. Chocolate normally worsens my crohns but I wanted to eat them anyway as I didnt exactly get an easter. Is it ok to eat chocolate within the first week of eating food again?

Many thanks xx :panda-wave-t:

My son did a 6 week modulen diet over Christmas which involved him drinking it, not a tube. He also had an NG tube in recently for a couple of weeks which he had modulen put down.
When he finished the diet we were told to avoid anything high fibre [ which included the tomoto soup which he had been looking forward to ] He could eat things like white pasta and bread.

We weren't told to avoid fats or chocolate. To be honest he ate pretty much what he wanted. Just take it slowly and eat small and often.

When you see your dietican they should give you a handout of how to re introduce foods. Each hospital seem to be different in what they say you can eat.

I wouldn't worry about the chocolate going out of date, that is just a guide. chocolate takes a long time to go off :ylol:

A dietician is indeed the route to go...He or she can guide with the transition into what to eat and what not to.

There are plenty of low fat brands of ham, or margerine ( substitute for butter) and lean meats. You can also try greek yogurt with honey, white bread panini of turkey...or tofurkey. There are plenty of low fat cheeses etc....so let a dietician guide you..
There are also allot of soya options out there if your trying low fat that are realy delicious.

I'd try a small tortilla wrap of low fat shredded cheese and tin slices of turkey and then put in in a pan to warm up or a toaster iron to make it flat..
Just one tortilla and fold in into a half circle shape....cut it in mini pizza slices when done and it can be eaten cold if you want....so if your done you can store it and eat the rest later...

Eat in small amounts and not too much too fast...slowly does it.

Lemme know how it goes with the dietician..

Yeah im meeting my dietician on the 23rd I just thought id post this anyway because its better to hear it from someone who's been through it too. Thanks for the advice and suggestions, cant wait to have food again!

I do like carrots and cucumber but I was told no fruit or veg!

Really? When I was on a restricted liquid diet for 6 months these were the first foods that I was to introduce because they were the easiest on the stomach. You should steam them. Eating raw vegetables during reintroduction at first can be really bad. I actually have a whole chart that guides me for food introduction I can gladly outline it for you here if you would like :).

if you are still on here i'd love an outline or link to the plan. about to reintroduce food to my 3 year old with crohns and not so helpful dietician

I have it in pdf form is there anywhere I can send that to you? Unless you would like me to type the whole thing out :D

is it too big to attach using the paperclip icon at the top? def not type it out! not keen to put my email address on??

saw your siggy and it says lactose intolerant...
how do we know that we are lactose intolerant (or not). My son can take dairy without any problem and he loves milk, everyday he used to drink 2 glass fulls of milk(2x 250ml) before Dx of Crohn's

my son likes milk and he doesn't have any side effects means I can safely assume he is lactose tolerant??

I am also following Jini Patel Thompson's food reintroduction chart. I haven't been able to find many others doing this, and I have some questions. Has anybody used the chart in order to establish a new, healthy solid food diet? That is what I am working on now.
