Hi fellow IBDers, I'm a 65 year old woman who up until Oct. 30, 2015 when diagnosed with LC was very active: playing tennis, skiing, running, hiking, snow shoeing, yoga and pilates.
In my late 30s I was diagnosed with IBS, but since at that time (1987) nobody knew much about how to deal with it, I sort of played around with diet and decreased my stress level. I was going through a difficult divorce, and had 3 young girls (10,7, 5) and was playing in a competitive tennis league. So when my doctor said to decrease my stress level I quit playing tennis, and unfortunately have never resumed that activity.
Also, when I was 25 I suffered a close head injury following a near fatal motorcycle accident and was in a coma for 3 days. :eek2: Following that injury I was placed on anti-depressant which I'm still taking to this day. I used to have a lot of bloating, gas and constipation, but since last December I've had explosive watery diarrhea (WD) constantly.
Last Dec. 21 I had some sushi that didn't taste right to me, but not being a big fan of sushi, I didn't think much of that. However, about 30 minutes later the WD began accompanied by stomach cramps so bad that I spent most of the following week on a sofa or on the toilet
oo:. My doctor at Kaiser did blood tests and stool samples and declared me healthy. She said the last thing to check was to have a colonoscopy with a biopsy to determine if I had microscopic colitis (MC).
Kaiser was going to make me wait 2 months before they could do a colonoscopy, so I decided to take an alternative route. I found Dr. Yunger, Clean Gut, and after reading his books decided to do the 21 day cleanse.
That was in April and I had great success, so much so that my symptoms didn't return until this past September. I switched doctors and he quickly advised the colonoscopy route. On 10/28 I had that and on 10/30 was given the news that the pathology report indicated Lymphocytic Colitis with epitheleal damage.
Since then I have been on a 3x/day chewable Pepto regime which will end this coming Sat., 12/12 and I'm scared about what will happen then. I've also extensively researched on the Internet and read several books and started the Specific Carbohydrate Diet(SCD) about 2 weeks ago.
The intro diet and dyoff period (3-4 days) was difficult, but I think I'm on my way to changing my lifestyle and diet. I've notice that running gives me diarrhea, so I've quit that.:ymad:
I would LOVE to know if anyone on this forum does the SCD and how long it's taken them to become symptom free.
Well, I didn't mean to write such a tome, but being that I'm older it does take some time to recount my journey. I'm very hopeful that I'll be able to manage this disease and have a somewhat normal life again.
Thanks so much for any insights and support you all can send my way.
Respectfully,
Cristina
