Hi all,

I am hoping to get some advice and opinions. My bf is currently going through a bit of a nasty patch. He's due up for surgery sometime before the end of this year (although exactly when and how much they're taking out is uncertain at this point). He's experiencing quite severe pains, and the only foods that agree with his gut at this point are the quote unquote "unhealthy" ones (white pasta and grains, a great decrease in fruits and veggies, etc).

I'm a bit concerned, his appetite is less than mine and over the past few months he's been shedding so much weight it almost seems like he's lost half his body mass. He's trying to stick to his low fibre diet to keep his stomach happy, and drinking breakfast carnation nutrient drinks to try and keep his nutrient level up.

For those that have been there, are there any other foods that you would recommend we try that could give him a good nutrient boost and be okay on his gut? Or are we going to have to weather this out somehow until after the surgery and work on getting his appetite back to normal? I always try to plan a restaurant into our dates (keeping in mind to go to the ones with foods that he agrees with....i.e. pizza dates), and encourage him to order and eat...but I feel I could be doing a lot more to be eating "smart" than just encouraging him to try and eat despite his lack of appetite.

If a thread like this has already been started, my apologies and feel free to give me a good kick in that direction, thanks! :)

Hi amssgirl, I eat a low fiber diet. But I also do burgers, bacon, eggs. In short anything high fat. I queried this with my specialist & he told me not to to worry because with my constitution saturated fat simply wont stay in my body long enough to do damage @ all.
So if he fancies anything like that IMO let him have it. And of course it may help slightly by putting a bit of weight back on. Snacking on biscuits between meals as long as they are low fiber, chocolate bars etc. I do find that a bar of chocolate will increase diarhhea though.
As you can see my diet for others would be considered far from healthy but even though I'm flaring it keeps my weight pretty stable. Oh & white bread only obviously. Sometimes its just best to eat what you fancy, so I hope this helps.
With ref to the run up to surgery really only the maybe day before or perhaps two is what he'll get advice on.
Hope this helps him
Best Wishes
Grant
