Rectal Medication

I have just been back to see my specialist and for the first time since diagnosis in 2000 (although I have not gone to see anyone for over a year) I have someone who was so imformative and seemed as if they really cared. It was actually the specialist IBD nurse that I saw and he was so amazing. I have been paying here in Britain (what we call Private health care) and the care was absolutely awful.

My new super duper nurse is taking me in for lots of different tests and has changed my meds and 2 of them are Rectal. Im no tso keen on that but he seems to think that these will help my symptoms and as you will probably all agree we would try pretty much anything!!!!!

Has anyone else been taking their meds in this way and if so how did it compare with the oral ones.

Hi, Julie

I am on Canasa, which is a suppository. I take it for rectal ulcers and nausea. When I do take them, the ulcer pain is practically gone. Don't ask about the nausea right now though! lol

The Canasa is kind of like Lialda... just taken the other way.

Actually it seems to work a lot faster rectally even though its uncomfortable and kinda humiliating even when i'm by myself... I call them my butt plugs. I dont remember what they're called though lol, Hope you're feeling better

We dont really 'do' rectal meds in this country. The French particularly do. Wierd isn't it.

My main doc's have been private, the surgeon I saw yesterday is great, and do is the gastoenterologist. Only the rhuemy is useless, and he's going to get a kick up the 'rocket repository' next week if he doesn't take me seriously and tell me what I want to know.
