Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone can offer some advice! I have had Crohn's disease for 14 years and have been in remission for the last 7ish years, medication free for about 5 of those years, In November last year I had a big flare i have handled it myself with probiotics which have been amazing! My problem is I've had 5 miscarriages since then. I have been to my gyno and there is no medical reason for this to keep happening. I'm convinced its because of Crohn's so I have now started taking Puri Nethol to try to get it under control to be able to hold a pregnancy.
Has this happened to anyone? I'm getting very over it! I have a 4 year old little girl who I had no troubles with!
Any help or guidance would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Michelle

Have you had your cardiolipin antibodies checked? Mine are raised and can cause miscarriage. It is related to Antiphospholipid Syndrome.

Good luck Michelle xxx

Hi Michelle
Just wanted to send my support, I was dx crohns 25 yrs ago, told back then not to expect to have children, 6 yrs ago got pregnant during bad flare (not planned) and had miscarriage, went into remission following yr and had first baby then in full remission had another miscarriage, 3 months after that pregnant again with my second daughter. I'm afraid I never got any answers they just gave the "one of those things" speeches they give when they don't have the answers.
I agree with KazT17 get all your levels checked and don't forget plenty of rest and try leave the stress at the door.
I pray all works out for you and you get some good news soon.

Were you ever tested for blood clotting disorders such as Factor V Ledin, Protein S deficiency, MTHFR genetic mutation, etc. as these disorders can cause a miscarriage.

My heart goes out to you and fwiw, I was diagnosed with MTHFR genetic mutation after my body threw a clot on my brain that caused a stroke. The hospital mentioned the people with IBD can throw clots when flaring but I wasn't. I fired the MD there and was sent to a well known hematologist who diagnosed me correctly...the MTHFR genetic mutation and she told me that women who tend to miscarry, should be tested as some of the blood clotting disorders can be treated with shots so the mom can carry the baby to term.

I'd definitely ask to be tested though for the clotting disorders to rule it out for future pregnancies. I wish you the best of health and you are in my prayers. God bless. ~GW

Thanks everyone,

I have had blood test done for the clotting agents, and the ammune one, they both came back normal! He tested me for so many things. So it just seems to be one of those things which is even more frustrating. I guess I'm lucky in the sense I can get pregnant straight away, just have to find a way to keep it!I have made an appt to see my gyno next month so hopefully he might have a different path for me!

When I had a lot of miscarriages it was before I was diagnosed. However, my obgyn was convinced that I had an autoimmune disease that was causing it. Apparently sometimes with autoimmune diseases even if they are under control for the most part, you can still have losses. It was recommended to me that if I wanted to have more children that I needed to go on a maintenance medication to be able to do so. That apparently kills down the immune reaction that causes miscarriages in me. I dont know if that is the case with you but it is worth a look.
