DS was dx with strep throat today.
He got one dose of abx
His next remicade infusion is Thursday .
I am assuming he can't have it while he is on abx .
Any one have any experience with this???
Need to call Gi on Monday to update them .:(

Oh No! Tis the season huh? Poor little pumpkin.

Olivia was on antibiotics for an infection once and she had her infusion. It doesn't necessarily count out infusion but definitely call because I would imagine it depends on which antibiotic and what kind of infection. I think it also depends on how much time is between the start of antibiotics and the infusion.

Good luck!

The other problem is he just had strep at the end of oct beginning of nov ....
And that was just after cellulitis in his foot

I can tell ya strep scares me to NO END
My poor 9 yr. old nephew! I saw him today and he's changed so much, my heart breaks and it's all because of strep!

I hope you boy gets this kicked out for good.

MLP, I hope this doesn't impact his infusion! :ghug: :ghug:

I hope he's feeling okay though and good luck with the call on Monday!

No experience with this mlp but I hope your boy is soon feeling better, bless him.

Went through this last week with my son. He's still in the induction stage of Remicade and his GI chose to have his 2nd infusion held off until this coming Thursday. Thankfully he's starting bounce back.

Hope your son recovers quickly and his treatment isn't affected.

No fever Sunday
Abx are working
Gi gave us the all clear to get the infusion on Thursday provided his fever stays away.
Which is good since his Ibd stuff is back ( blood, stomach pain , temenusus , proctitis etc..)
Is it Thursday yet???
At least abx is keeping his stool soft.
He has C as an Ibd issue.
Funny though
Went to eye doc today for DS limbal vernal keratoconjunctivitis and eye doc said given his allergy ( food drug bees ) , Ibd and now eye issues despite normal treatment he thinks DS mast cells are going haywire .
He was given more eye steriods and mast cell stabilizing eye drops.
Glad someone is connecting the dots slowly .
Merry Christmas

Glad he is connecting the dots, but Geez, mama! One more thing on your plate to deal with. Hope tomorrow goes smoothly!

Hope his fever stays away and he continues to overcome strep!! Glad the antibiotics are working, sorry to hear the CD symptoms are cropping up!!

Hope he feels better soon, and have his infusion on time. GOOD LUCK! I know how you feel. My daughter started complaining today.(sore throat). and her Remicade is on friday. Best wishes for you and your son.

Good luck for tomorrow!!! I hope nothing causes a delay for his infusion! :ghug:

Still Ibd stuff but that is to be expected

O.K. my turn to be a bubble burster (and I know you know this) the goal is not to have the IBD stuff pop up before infusion. I mean it is normal at the beginning while they are trying to figure out dose and schedule and all but they shouldn't have symptoms creeping back in...that is an indication the cycle has to be shortened or dosage raised...that said, I know you are still at the beginning and maybe it is just taking time for the Remi to truly take over but I would cautiously watch the symptoms and make sure you let GI and infusion nurses know they are back...hahaha like I have to tell any of us to be cautious.

Good luck tomorrow!

Ha no bubble bursting needed:ytongue: -- of course I / Gi is on top of it.
Gi is already aware
Trough levels and antibody tests are ordered to be taken Thursday.
Gi is already upping the dose and keeping him at 6 weeks infusions instead of eight.
Then assess .
Before last infusion he last 4 weeks one day and things went down hill.
This time over five weeks -- yesterday was 6 weeks but things did not get as bad and we didn't have as many symptoms so hopefully the dose increase will work.:shifty::shifty:

Good luck tomorrow! I am wondering if some of the IBD symptoms he is having is being caused by the antibiotic? Did it start before he started the antibiotic? I know that every single antibiotic destroys my stomach and gives me pain, diarrhea, and even vomiting sometimes. I have tried them all and it is always a nightmare when I have to take one. I have found taking a probiotic and eating a yogurt at the time I take it helps a little. Maybe that would help?

Thanks Kim
Unfortunately the symptoms started over a week ago before the abx( started abx sat)
He does have probiotics in his peptamen jr he drinks everyday and eats yogurt daily just in case.

Strep throat has always caused a flare for us. Its the thing I fear every winter. Wish they had something to prevent it like they do for the flu. I'll bet once your son gets his infusion he'll be feeling better.

Infusion done
At home building Legos :)
Couldn't have trough levels or antibodies drawn since Prometheus labs won't let the hospital do them ( even though they did them in may ):voodoo: now
So since it changed had to do the insurance dance and phone tag with Gi nurse .
It's covered get trough levels right after an infusion tells us nothing.:stinks:
The Gi office will call back as when the doc wants it done .

Thanks for the update mlp!

So fab to hear all went well with the infusion. :):):) Sucks about the labs though. :(:(:( I hope it is soon sorted and you don't have to wait too long for a suitable time.

Good luck!

Talked to the Gi about 4 weeks so
....
That way we have the results before the next infusion at at 6 weeks in case we need to change anything.
Off to make a few more calls in a bit

ERGH! This is my pet peeve! Our doc pulled these tests every infusion so we could get to the right dose and interval. Thankfully, we had it all figured out when the insurance companies all decided to not cover the tests and told docs to change based on symptoms. How utterly ridiculous...So you have a kid who keeps having symptoms and you shorten the interval up the dosage and he keeps having symptoms. Meanwhile a simple test could have told them that there was plenty of Remicade in the kids system but that it simply wasn't working OR that the child was building antibodies and no amount of screwing with the dose and schedule would help. They would rather spend thousands of dollars on trial an error infusions and leave a kid inflammed than spend the $250 for the darn test!!!!!!!!! I just do not understand some of these policies!

O.K. off my soapbox. Glad you are getting the test done.

CIC
Our hospital used to be able to do the draw and send it to the ca lab no issue but something at Prometheus change when they went over to their new IFx test.
The lab Prometheus is the one not permitting the hospital to due the test.
Prometheus is insisting they send out their own nurse to the patients home to do the draw.
The Gi office doesn't understand why Prometheus put in this place.
In this case it is not even an issurrance issue .

Oooh! Well then that is probably why a bunch of insurance companies now choose to not cover it and why the cost is so high. Around here it is an insurance issue so consider yourself super lucky your company is covering it.

They said they would but...
Until I see a payed bill /claim ...
Then I will believe it
Since the typical cya clause was stated as long as its medically necessary .
Ha...
When I asked the issurrance if it
Was medically necessary she said with a crohn's code it wouldn't be an issue .

Up here... where medical care is free :ywow:... my friend's daughter had this test last year (Prometheus test - assume its the same test), cost my friend $250; now that insurance 'covers' it, the cost for the same test is $2,500! Not covered by my friends insurance, so now she has to go through a whole process to see if they are 'exempt' from the cost! :ymad:
