How do you know if you are in remission? How do you know if you are having a flare? I have never been as bad as I was in 2008. I had surgery in Oct 2014. Does recession mean your life is like it was before you had CD? I guess I never learned this.

Thanks

I was wondering the same! Is remission a definition of the same quality of life as before? Or do we have to accept that things will never be the same again?
On the other hand, I have hit the over 40 mark and was wondering how much has to do with age too (even though many 80 year olds seem to have more energy than me).

Speaking of energy, or lack there of. 8 hours of sleep is not enough for me. I wake up 2 hours before I have to leave for work to ensure I have time for my 2 BM and any extras.

I wonder how many people here need more than the 8 hours of sleep? I seem to need about 10, and an extra lie-in at the weekend. I know what you mean about having to get up early to fit it all in. I will sometimes even miss out on a drink in the morning (yet alone breakfast) if I know I have to do something important in the first few hours of the day.

remission is when the disease is controlled and your tests come back in the normal range. When I am in remission I typically have the quality of life like I had before being sick and getting diagnosed.

I know what you mean about lack of energy....
I was diagnosed late last year.
I am a hopeless insomniac and average about four hours of sleep a night. I have been all my life. Lately, I can't get enough sleep.....I have been sleeping through the night and napping and so on. I quit going to the gym and going for my walks. I am always tired.
Is this considered a flare or just part of the crohns way of being?

I can't wait to read some of the answers on this thread. Thank you for starting it.

I need more than 8 hours of sleep. If I get less, I get sick. I usually average about 10, which means going to bed at 7 to get up at 530.

My daughter visits my parents on Saturdays so I usually end up sleeping at least 5 extra hours that day.

Even in remission, I slept about 10 hours a night.

I have no problem sleeping, once I fall asleep I am out. Just the 8 hours are not enough. I had a colonoscopy today, the CD part looks good, but the UC is not looking so hot. Time for some more meds :stinks: Hopefully I can get some energy back. Between full time work, part time work and Grad School I am drained.

I think that would drain most people.
