Hi All,
Since diagnosis (Crohn's) in my early twenties, I have looked around at forums etc but never joined one. I feel compelled to do so now to share my experience and if even one person hears this and acts, then great.
I have gone through the usual medical treatments and by and large I have been pretty good with short periods of being pretty bad. I exercise heavily (I used to compete in triathlons and cycling) and I guess this contributes to my general tiredness but I have been determined not to lose this bit of my life.
The bad episodes have been very bad and I had been on my monthly infusions with limited improvement. We have been gearing up for a section for a while now and I have been exploring every possible alternative as I am only just 30 and have a young family.
I found some clinical studies looking at anti secretory factor and Crohn's. In particular looking at a product (SPC Flakes) which normalised anti secretory factor levels in Crohn's patients. I'd never heard of it in the UK but the trials showed really good results in improving symptoms so I tracked down the company that developed them in Sweden and ordered some. I am delighted to say that after a couple of weeks I felt improvement and after about a month and a half I felt pretty good. I am now 7 months in and feel like I've been rebooted!
My gastro has taken the attitude of 'if it works, keep it up' and we are therefore not looking at section for the foreseeable which is such good news.
I started taking the Salovum and then moved to SPC Flakes. These can be taken with your meals. SPC is actually just like normal oats and I make mine into porridge. I haven't changed anything else in my lifestyle.
There is now a company in the UK that provides these.
I hope someone gets some benefit from this.
All the best
Ali
