Scope Prep Question

I have read the information the specialist has provided for my scope next friday but I'm curious as to what your thoughts are.

My appt is for 1:45pm (probably be at the hospital for 1 or 1:15). When should I start taking the Prep? I figure the day before I will be on a liquid only diet to assist with the cleanse but I am concerned that I am going to be up all freakin night. Even if I start it 12 hours before I am looking at starting to take the Prep around 12 midnight - 1am. :thumbdown:

You should be given detailed instructions; what diet to eat the few days before, times to do prep etc, so contact your Hospital.

Usually a colonoscopy prep starts the day before- I had 2 litres the day before my procedure and the final litle that morning, and yes I had to get up early to do it.

If you are concerned with travelling after taking prep, I would recommend taking the last lot an hour before the instructions say, to be on the safe side.

Yeh the hospital should give you a detailed letter of when to take it and also what you can and cant eat a few days before etc. I'd give them a ring if i where you

Agree with the above. Also, I'm always told to be there an hour before the procedure time...for paperwork, changing, IV starting, last run to the bathroom etc etc.....

I've had scopes at pretty much every time of day and the prep start time is always the same, begin with the first sachet at 1:00pm the day before, another round at 3 and another at 7 pm. (liquid diet all day the day before)
This is for using pico salax as a prep.
I am not sure if it's called by the same name in the States...?

I've had 2 afternoon scopes and both preps ( one klean one fleet) were both started at around 6-7 evening before and again at 6-7 in the morning of scope I also had to stop taking any liquids from around 8ish the morning of scope so as to be able to travel to app. I was up during the night im afraid!! there should be instructions in the box or app leaflet from hosp. good luck

There usually are instructions on the box/sachets, but as they are "standard issue" they may not be correct for your appointment.

I remember having to take my first sachet at 8am and the other one between 2-4pm the day before and follow the special diet given i think it was piplex??

I just had a duodenoscope and a colonoscopy today! Did the prep yesterday and it wasn't very nice. I'm already quite inflamed and I had a pretty bad reaction to the laxative (I had picolax).
And yeah like everyone has said there should be detailed instructions that come with the laxative.
Usually you take a first dose before 8am the day before, then another dose at around 2-4pm, and no solid food after about 1:30pm. (this is just what mine always instructs, I'm sure it varies)
You have to really try with it aswell because if your bowels aren't clear they can't continue with the procedure and it's not a pleasent experience (the prep or the procedure) to have to uneccessarily do again!
