I had my second colonoscopy and first EGD done Wednesday. Unlike my first colonoscopy I didn't remember anything, even getting myself dressed, out to the car or the ride home. My husband said I was coherent enough to get him to the main road so he could find his way back.

Results were severe inflammation and ulcerations and of course Crohn's. The doctor could not finish the colonoscopy because of a stricture in the small intestine. From what the doc said yesterday, he tried several different sizes of tubes and none would go through, so he was unable to see into the small intestine. Said I will probably have to have another scope done b/c he needs to be able to see whats on the other side of the stricture. He said I have not been on Humira long enough for it to take affect. I did have some bleeding afterwards, but they said that was due to him taking so many biopsies. They did tell me that if I have any problems or feel like I'm getting an obstruction that I will need to go to the ER.

I don't have a follow up appointment w/ my GI until January, so I guess I just have to wait until then to see if they want to put me on any other meds. I'm curious what else they will put me on, if anything, since the only med I am on is the Humira. I'm wondering, does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do or try so I can prevent an obstruction? I've been fortunate up to now with pretty much being able to eat anything w/out any trouble, but I'm sure that will have to change. I would like to avoid surgery, but I feel at this point its only a matter of time.

Thanks for reading and any help.
Pam

Hiya Pam,
I had my last colonoscopy around march time. I was told I had a stricture too, but wasn't told to eat/do anything different.

I'd had a severe pain in my side for a few weeks at the time, but the pain left soon after.
I was put back on a course of Pred, so perhaps that helped.

I haven't changed my diet, but I maybe lucky.

A lot of the folks on here do seem to have changed their diet after discovering strictures, so I'm sure they will be much more help than I.

As far as I was told at the time, there are other options than surgery. there is a procedure that involves stretching the bowel with a type of balloon.
But like I said, others on here will have more information.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had been on prednisone for about 6wks, had to wean down and finished a few weeks ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they put me back on it for longer b/c I know it helps, I just hate the constant hunger feeling. My GI is out on maternity leave, so it was one of her colleagues that did the scopes and he said I didn't need to follow up with him at all, so now I'm waiting until January.

Sounds a lot like what I just went through.

Just had my second colonoscopy, couldn't make it all through
my small intestines because it was too blocked up.

I'm on prednisone now. I also bled a bit after my colonoscopy.

I figure they'll probably do another if they can get the inflammation reduced
enough to make it past the obstruction.

Just not fun.
