Earlier this year in may i had a ruptured appendix removed and a load of scar tissue removed also. I started getting ill again after a month or so . I was repeatedly sent back and fourth from my GP to the Hospital with no conclusion as to was was causing my illness.
So I got fed up with this and paid to a private clinic for a second opinion. They sent me for a Flouroscopy ( you drink white liquid and multiple Xrays are taken as it passes through your system) to look for possible blockage caused by scar tissue or maybe and swelling caused by infection or fluid build up.

A week later I was called back to see the Consultant who told me that the tests where all clear and it was just some cramping that I could take drugs for !
Two days later I got much worse, I felt i was walking around in a daze and was getting quite sick. Terrible pain below my belly button and what felt like a lump to the right of it . I was also feeling quite nauseaus and had a constant headache.
Was sent into the hospital by my new Doctor ,who was really good. Immediatley they where rushing around taking blood and telling me my heart rate was very high. I thought I was going to die.

I got admitted and surprise surprise its the doctor from the private clinic who comes to see me and says he cant understand why Im very ill. he goes through all my recent notes and says your scans are clear. I said to him "you better be sure as i aint getting any better ". He goes away and i believe he now looks t my scans for the first time !. They all arrive into my room and he tells me im to have emergency surgery and gets me to sign the release form.

So anyhow, he found that my small intestine was twisted and completely closed wrapped in scar tissue beside my TI. My abdomenal wall was herniated all down the right side where my organs had now joined to. As he cut away at the scar tissue he pushed through up towards my Gaul bladder and found a large volume of peritoneal fluid which had to be drained off. My small intestine was pulled out through my now large bellybutton and all scar tissue and adhesions removed. Internal cavity was flushed out and everything put back in place.

So that was just over four weeks ago. Externally the swelling and brusing has gone away. My constant pain has gone, headache gone. My bowels, well its all new to me now. I have had several accidents since but that is also fading away.
So I feel different, I have a tremendous appetite for food and life. Still I am weary of what the future holds but I intend to get as fit as possible.
So what have I learned this year; dont give up hope of finding an answer. This was something that nobody expected nor where they willing to even admit existed. Personally im shocked at the dismissive attitude of GPs. You gotta educate yourself and tell them what you think. Ask for results of tests always. Still they dont know what caused all the fluid or scar tissue but for now Im happy to enjoy some better days.

Wow Peter - glad someone finally took you seriously and got you straightened out! Hope everything continues to go uphill for you from here on out!

OmGsh! You're very strong going through all this...wishing you complete recovery!

If you don't mind me asking, have you been on Asacol only? Or have you taken immunosuppressants?

Hi Peter, I remember you from one of your previous posts about this. I am so glad to hear that you finally got heard and that they have gone in and removed such nasty scar tissue. No wonder you were in such pain. With hindsight it is crazy, they left such dense adhesions that were visualised last time. But the main thing is you are in a better place now. Good for you for not giving up and I really hope your better quality of life continues.
