My doctor wants to put in a Seton for a fistula and I know there are other options I'm just too drained and depressed to really research those options. I am also very far from home ( I live in the US currently living in Spain). I will be home at the end of June and wondering if I should wait until I see doctors that I am more familiar with.

I absolutely do not want another procedure/surgery. Can Remicade and 6mp possibly heal a fistula? Thank you for any advice.

The seton needs to go in to keep the fistula tract open, draining and free from infection.

I would not wait. After you see a more familiar doc they can then decide to remove it (or not).

I would not hesitate. Just my .02¢

Good Luck

Thank you for opinion. I'm just really afraid, I don't want to go through a (possibly painful) procedure w/o my family around and w/o trying with medicine first.

A seton placement is not a big op, it will be uncomfortable after surgery, but it should stop abscess forming and the fistula getting bigger. Site baths are also really important post op as the soothe the area and keep it clean.

I know it seems scary, but there are much greater problems that can occur if you leave them too long.

I agree. Seton placement is relatively minor and will reduce pain and other possible problems. I have three setons and they work very well for me. I also can understand about being with doctors you feel more comfortable with, but this will help you. Hugs

I agree with all of the above comments. The seton placement can vary from not painful at all to quite painful depending on the extent of the track and related abscesses-if any.
It is absolutely better than risking having it build a series of abscesses that have to be drained. Good luck with whatever decision you make.
