Hi, I was diagnosed late last year with mild crohns and diverticular. I have a couple of flare ups and all seemed well until yesterday. I began getting extremely sharp pains to my left side abdominal region. The pain spreads across, but if I press and/or occasionally I will get a shooting pain like someone has literally shoved a knife in, to the point of doubling over almost. If I take a deep breath I get the same pain. I thought I might be constipated, but had some BM this morning. I am cautious as I don't know whether it is a blockage. Could anyone offer any advice suggestions?

I would see a GI if I were you. I have had occasional pain on both my left and right sides since I've had CD, but it subsides quickly. Probably a gas build-up. You are describing something different though, and if it is a blockage I would think that medical care ASAP would make sense. Good luck!:rosette1:

I was seeing how it fared today, and is still really painful tomorrow head to the GP. I have just also read that corn ain't the best. Of which I ate a couple of nights ago. I have never had a blockage, so I don't know exactly what to expect when it occurs. I know this is a whole new pain to what I have experienced thus so far.

Corn is one of the acid-producing veggies that I stay away from. I am not particularly a fan of corn except for freshly made corn-on-the-cob with salt and butter (yum!), but I have to refrain from that right now. Let us know how your GP visit goes!:goodluck:

Corn isn't a veggie, it's a grain and, like all grains, should be avoided (I've explained at great length elsewhere). To put it bluntly, grains are as damaging to the GI tract as the tar in cigarettes are to the lungs.

Thanks Anthea, the pain subsided about 24 hours after. But it was an extremely painful experience. Thank you for the insight to Corn being a grain. I would have hoped my specialist could have given more definition when he advised not to eat grains.
