We have a family coming over this weekend, but the dad currently has shingles and was told to stay away from immune suppressed people. DS is on Remicade and due for his infusion Sept 3rd. Should I postpone having this family over? Would it put DS at risk for shingles?

What does your Gi have to say ???
Ds was exposed to shingles ( Dh had it)
We tested titers
Basically they can't get shingles ( comes from dormant chicken pox )
But can get chicken pox if they never had it or have low titers from the vaccine.
Really you need your Gi input on this one

I,ve had shingles and was told it was infectious until the lesions scab over then it's fine, but if in doubt phone your gp.all the best

Of course his GI is on vacation. A nurse called back though and said its best if we postpone our get together with this family.

That takes care of that.

Glad you figured it out. The bottom line with shingles is if you have never had chicken pox or the chicken pox vaccine or have immune disorder that does not allow you to build antibodies to chicken pox then you can get chicken pox from someone with shingles.
I got shingles and gave two of my kids chicken pox who had not had it yet. Caitlyn who was on remicade at the time and had had the vaccine was fine. We had no issues with her.
