Some of you know that i've been hospitalized 3 times in the last 2 weeks with it. I'm hoping there is someone else on these forums who can relate, and if anti-anxiety pills have helped reduced attacks?

It's definitely scary when you have heart rates so high you need injections to bring it down..

Have they determined what's causing it Lisa? Whether it's something physical with your heart causing the rhythm to spike or if it's stress? I'm sure ativan, which is used for anxiety amongst other things would help.

When my heart rate was high due to being hyperthyriod, they put me on beta-blockers to bring my heart rate down. You've probably already heard of that seeing as you were in the hospital, but just in case you haven't - I thought I'd put it out there.
Not sure what the sinus part of tachycardia means. To me it sounds like nose rapid heart rate. That can't be it.
Hope you feel better anyways.

They think its anxiety..and its crazy that twice it caught me while I was ASLEEP!

They've given me Ativan...but in small amount. The ones that do instant relief I only have like 10 left, and the ones that take an hour to kick in I have 4 left.

MBH, was beta-blockers given by injection? Maybe that's what I required during my first attack when my heart rate was 170+.

I'm on Citalopram, but have only been on it for 5 days at a low dose. I go back to my family doc here in Canora on friday morning. The doctor at ER yesterday told me to make sure I start double the dose of the Citalopram on Friday.

Sinus refers to one of the rhythms of your heart. It's an electrical signal that would be seen as a sine wave on a meter (hence sinus).

Sinus in cardiac terms means regular. Sinus rythm means regular rythm.

There are many different rythms in relation to the heart.

Tachy means fast

Cardia means heart

So sinus tachycardia means regular fast rythm.

A fast rythm is generally one that is above 100 beats per minute.

It could be caused by anxiety or stress Lisa and the only way is to give you the meds for that condition and see if things settle as your anxiety levels settle.

The body has a sneaky way of catching us out when we least expect it.

Hope what I have said makes sense - am just in from work and looking at cardiac monitoring all day! LOL

num1, do they think it could be anxiety attacks?

Let us know how your doc visit goes 2mrw. I'll be thinking of you , hope all goes well!

Thank you Jan =) I have learned something today.

Num, This may REALLY help your mind at ease.. but i suggest you try it..
I got a Script for Tramadol which is non-habit forming and is a pain killer. It's also used in offices for anxiety because of its awesome anelgesic properties.

I take 100mg and my anxiety is gone for 4 hrs atleast.. but after that im usually relaxed by then.
