Hi! Newbie here. Big intro post over in the "your story" forum if you want more background.

Had a new 'thing' start a week ago. I take dance and decided to take an extra class this session so I've got 2.5 hours of class on Monday nights. Noticed near the end of class last week that I was feeling mighty chafed, and I do occasionally get a bit of yucky leakage especially after a good long run of BMs, so I went into the bathroom to clean up assuming I'd passed gas and then some (sigh) and discovered that I'd had a rather decent amount of bloody leakage of some sort. (Oh, god, there's just no non-gross way to describe this, is there? I've typed that last sentence fifteen times now and it's just not improving.) It wasn't fecal. Just... blood and mucous/pus. So weird!

Anyone ever have this happen? I've had a bit of a war with anal fissures and tags and that fun stuff, so I know I have some anorectal involvement... is this a small popped abscess or something? Had no real significant pain in the region, which makes me doubt an abscess, but my LRQ pain has been resuming lately and I've been running low-grade fevers so who knows what's up overall.

I'm seeing my GI on Wednesday, regardless, I'm just curious what the general community experience is with leakage, at least of the non-shart variety. Do other people get it? Is blood normal... er, at least not panic-worthy? I don't get bloody stools so it's just... bah. weird.

It sounds to me like a fistula. They like to leak nasty stuff like that. They also like to get clogged up and cause an abscess, and infection.

LOVELY. I was wondering about that. But it's not at all constant... just when I'm physically active I get a lil' something going on, and then like I said after BMs I sometimes get a little something extra. Wouldn't a fistula be more consistent? Wishful thinking? ;)

I get mucous sometimes, but never blood. Was there mucous with it? This sounds gross, but sometimes when I go to the bathroom it's just mucous that comes out. Maybe this is something like that, but with blood in it??

My fistula was not constantly draining. In fact it only drained when I sneezed, coughed or lifted something heavy. Your GI can have a look down there and tell you what it is. Dont worry its nothing they havent seen before.

Yea, me too....seems that things are always kinda moist down there....and with a new development of fissures, Ive been more leaky than normal!! Good luck to ya....and watch that fever, if it goes over 100.9, you better be seen sooner than later!!

I have ulcerative colitis and have been in a flare up mild and major for over 2 years. I get mucus with blood all the time pretty much normal at this point for me. This is he ulcers that are weeping mucus and blood.

Hi Kris - I don't have any advice for you, just wanted to wish you good luck. And to express my gratitude that we all have this forum where we can share stuff like this that non-Crohnies would be completely grossed out by! And to us it's just normal, everyday talk!

Thanks for all the insight! I hate the thought of being just incurably "leaky." Bah. It wouldn't bother me so much but for the chafing! I tried powder but it seems to be... ineffective. ha. alas. Thank god for purse packs of wet wipes!

I know this sounds funny - but as long as you are 'only' chafing - there is a powder call 'Anti-Monkey Butt' (YES - for REAL!) that is for chafing in the nether region....it is used by riders to avoid chafing while riding......

I 2nd the Calmoseptine, so wonderful when I had my seton. Fistula's can be hard to heal - many have success with Remicade. Some do surgery, but that can be very painful can not always the best results.

I have to LOL @ your signature.. "dreadnisone".

I 3rd the Calmoseptine, it won't help with the leakage, but makes a great barrier, and it very soothing and will heal your chaffed skin overnight.

I was leaking mucous when I was flaring, and I tried doing rectal kegals. Not even sure if it helped, but it can't hurt I guess. I still leak a teeny bit of poo once in a while, so I use the Calmo on a daily basis. Just a little smear each morning usually works for the day.

Thanks guys!! The calmoseptine is awesome!

Doc says he's not sure what's going on, but since I'm still fighting this flare, it may just be mucus from the persistent inflammation... or something... dunno. I'm going in for a repeat CT in a couple of weeks to see wtf is going on. Never ends, eh?

Anyways, thanks again for the advice! working out is *way* easier without my asscrack getting chafed to death. It's the little things. ;)
