No toilet. No way to wash hands after I see a patient who has a virus. This is a recipe for me to get sick. On Remicade and mercaptapurine. Sometimes I feel like the wind blows and I get sick.

Send me good vibes that I make it through the day without catching a virus or having a bathroom emergency!

Thanks in advance,
Maggie

Oh no! That sounds horrible! I hope everything goes okay. Is there a vending machine where you can buy a bottle of water and use little bits of that to wash your hands throughout the day? Hand sanitizer is good but it doesn't kill everything - it doesn't kill c diff and it doesn't kill things like norovirus & rotavirus. I hope you can get through the day without catching anything!

Oh lord, I knew it wasn't as good as the good old fashioned way but I didn't realise it doesn't touch those blighters!

I always use it because I have eczema on my hands and washing makes it worse!

Thanks for the support. I work in a small private psychiatry practice so we don't have vending machines. I wound up going to the real estate office next door and asking to borrow their facilities.

And, by 3pm the water was back!

Glad to see the water is back. For future reference, usually when a facility has no water (hot or cold) it is required by DOH to close until there is water available.

I figured it might be. Unfortunately, I am not in a position to make decisions as to whether or not we stay open. :-/

Very relatable. I work in schools so I am very familiar with getting sick. I'm on Humira so that too has lowered my compromised immunity. Two things working against me.

How often do you wind up missing work? I am trying to go to work for a month without having to call in sick from some contagious disease...hoping things improve. ;-). So far so good for January...knock on wood.

I've been pretty good with not missing any work for about 2 months but that's because I go in regardless of being sick. Unfortunately I can't run away from germs in schools. I often recover then quickly after get another infection so there hasn't been a week in months that I have been infection free. I'm seeing an allergist and a ENT doctor to check it's not some other underlining reason. So far my doctors just put me on back to back antibiotics.

I miss more work for Crohn's related reasons then anything now. So far so good. My job unfortunately doesn't help when I'm having Crohn's related things happening. I can't quickly leave my classroom with the kids unattended to use the washroom if need be. I'm starting to consider changing professions to be honest.. makes me sad

MizzSarah, I am in the classroom as well and I hate you don't have the support. I understand at times it is an absolute no time to hunt someone down. I have a great support team that will immediately help cover my class. it is so difficult to not miss; this year has been especially difficult. The germs don't bother me as my missed days are all Crohns related issues - four surgeries since September. Praying this semester is much kinder...I, too, have considered changng profession. Love my job, but I am physically not what I used to be.
