I was going to write yesterday, but didnt have time in the end.
I was going to tell you all how i competed in my first ever dressage and showjumping competition yesterday (ever since getting crohns its always been my ambition to jump a clear round in a competition) I came 10th out of 22! The jumping was fantastic, and i jumped clear!!!
It was one of the best days of my life, and not only that, my crohns has been fan-bloody-tastic the past couple of months - the BEST its EVER been! I was SO SO SO happy!

Here's the sods law bit; Woke up this morning with a bit of a grumbly tummy, didnt think much of it, as the day went on I got these very familiar spasm pains in my stomach. (last time i had the same pain, turns out i had a 4/7cm mass in my abdo and spent 2 weeks in hospital, was back on steroids and the lot!)
And now im confident theyre the same pains. There 9/10 on the 'pain scale'
I really dont know what to do. I cant see my specialist in the clinic untill Wednesday. (which is in leeds)
Me and my mum decided that if it doesnt get better, or gets worse to go to A+E.
But im not sure if to go. The main reason is, i would be going to A+E here in Lincoln, and my specialists are 90miles away in Leeds.
I could go to lincoln, but i dont see whta they would do, or i could drive to leeds, but this sounds silly but its a long way and i dont want it to be a wasted trip. Most of all because i have UNI on monday, and i was even supposed to be in today and tomo for yard duties - and i really dont like missing them.

I know theres no right answer and noone can tell me what to do and i probly know best. But opinions would be of use. Im a bit upset and stressed out. :(

Cheers!

9 out of 10 on the pain scale. sod your other responsibilities, your primary one is to yourself. Get to a doctor, flip a coin if you can't decide which one, and take care of yourself. forget all the other what if's and maybes and other little side issues.

Jumping what?

And I think if I were in your situation I would just go to the close one, and make sure they know what the last one did.

Hey, thanks for your replies. I did go to the hospital in the end (lincoln). He suggested a few things to me, said i wasnt bad enough to get admitted. So ive decided to wait untill tommorrow, and then i can get in touch with my specialist.
Its got a bit better now too.
Thanks again, i just hope it doesnt last too long and i can get back to uni.

(oh it was showjumping - sorry that might have been a bit confusing! lol)

What is sod? (Down here it's like a roll of grass that we use in developing subdivisions).

What is show jumping?

Anyone recall how Christopher Reeve became paralyzed? You know, the actor who played superman in the movies from the 70's N 80's (or am I showing my age) That's show jumping... an Olympic equestrian event. does that ring a bell?

lol yeah showjumping is jumping over fences on a horse, in a sequence. Much fun!

And by 'sods law' i mean....well a sod is also a square grassy hole thing here, but its also a name you can give to something or someone, thats not very nice. ( i suppose like b*****d (i really dont want to be rude, but i cant think of another word to describe it! Coz you would usually say it to males lol)) Kids would get told off for calling someone a sod. lol!

But 'sods law' is a saying we have when something happens that you cant do anyrthing about....its just, 'sods law'
Hope thats helped abit. I also dont think it helps that im from yorkshire, coz we have our own words, and i think sod (in that content) might be one of them! lol!
I might have to ask Ruth coz she lives near me! lol!

Welll, I'd never heard the expression "Sod's Law" before, but I had heard of being told to "Sod Off". Or someone being called a 'stupid sod', that sort of thing. Not to be confused with a "Stupid S.O.B." And if anyone doesn't know what S.O.B. stands for, go rent the movie titled "S.O.B." directed by Blake Edwards (theres a laugh)...

Anyway, as for quaint expressions, or idiomatic expressions unique to an area.

My little community, on the shore of a tiny island, has a few (a whole book of them have been published, complete with translations to 'normal' English). I've one in mind, so appropo considering our collective situation. Here is the word:

HUM

Does it mean?

1. You don't know the words, haven't got a hymn book, and the choir is weak.

2. That little bird is too busy, and can't afford singing lessons like the others.

3. Something really reeks, stinks, smells to high heaven (as in 'Hum of the Lord!)

If you watch the movie "Fargo" you will think you are in my neighborhood. Not sure if that is a good thing.

"Sod's Law' is new to me. I think I will introduce it to the area. See if it sticks.
You Betcha.

Well, if you want to talk movies, depicting a persons 'roots' (so to speak) be on the lookout for the following (if you can find it).. It's titled 'Margarets Museum'. It is a pretty accurate depiction of what life was like where I came from. Seriously! A little bit of how the herione of the story reacts to the life she was raised in is a bit of an exageration... but not much. Now, it was based on the generation before my own, but things didn't really improve all that much. And it features one of the most haunting renditions of an old Gaelic song, sung in the original Gaelic, by a world renown local group. That alone makes it worth price of rental. Another, equally realistic portrayal, by a Hollywood director who was born there (late, great Dan Petrie) and introducing 24's Keifer Sutherland, is a film entitled "The Bay Boy". Both are good, both are realistic treatments, I just happen to prefer Museum... since my grandfather was a coal miner back when.
