Some scary news about CT scans

One of the times last year I ended up in the ER for right sided pain, the doctor refused to give me a CT scan due to the risks. Same for my OBGYN. MRI's are the way to go.

Hey- as anyone ever been given one of those "exposure" cards? I wonder if they give those to patients actually - we should all have one that we use when we get these things.

Great....I practically had 3 in a row in 2008. Every time I was admitted to the hospital I got one....Did it say what kind of cancer in the study? Or did I miss that?

Here is another article my sister sent me this morning. I'm not real happy about these numbers....

Unbelievable. Makes me wonder why CT's are given more than MRI's. Is it a cost thing? At the time I was a bit annoyed that the ER doc refused to give me a CT scan due to the amount of pain I was in, but am now relieved. Glad to know my other doctor ordered an MRI, too as opposed to the CT.

I was aware of the massive amount of radiation that can come with a CT scan, but sometimes it is the only way to see what they are after.

I took large doses of Turmeric to hopefully prevent DNA damage. I will probably not get another one, unless there is no other option, but I am glad I got the one, as it helped to conclude my diagnosis.

Ha! I have had five or six of these this year alone! I guess iwill die of cancer! The last time i went they told me they couldn't give me one because i could get radiation poisoning. Anyhow don't they give you radiation treatments if you get cancer so if radiation kills cancer how does it also cause it??

I've had about 10 of them since diagnosed in 2000!!! 2 just 4 weeks ago!!! I told my doctors about the radiation risk and that i prefer MRI, but they said said only CT scan can show a clear image of the fistula and abscesses!

"Of the 29,000 projected cancers -- or about 2 percent of all cancer diagnoses -- most were expected to be caused by scans of the abdomen and pelvis (14,000), chest (4,100), and head (4,000). About 2,700 would be caused by CT coronary angiography"

14'000 caused by scans of the abdomin and pelvis, now that's really sacry!!!! and we are also taking meds like Remicade and Imuran that increase risk of cancer.............
